maximus form. w vista

I have done a bit of homework as I am presently building this. My son and I are building this for fun: windows vista ult.;maximus formula; evga 8800gt scc(waiting for a better chipset that will sli and handle the qx9650); and we will use it a lot for gaming.

Question: your thought as to the best Corsair (or other!), knowing that I might start with the 64bit version right away (so ? 2X2GB now and later once more experienced and if I find I might benefit, add another of the same 2 DIMM's later? Otherwise (if going for 2-4GB total), I realize Corsair has said they recommend TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF(DDR2-111XMS2-8888@4-4-4-12-2T). Finally I read somewhere that said you should get RAM that runs at the same speed as FSB. The ASUS website says the FSB is 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz and RAM recommended is 1200 (overclocked...I don't know how yet),1066,800,667. I will sure appreciate your advice...tks, Don

Don

If you are planning on over clocking then I would suggest the XM2S-8888C4DF for best performance. But if your budget is tight I would suggest Twin2x2048-8500C5DF minimum with that system. And if you will use 4 modules I would suggest Quadx4096-8500C5DF. However, there is more loading on the system as you add more memory. And it will perform and or over clock better with just two modules installed. And I would check the games you plan to use as most will not run in 64 Bit windows yet.

Thankyou kindly, Ram Guy. I am going with your advice...Twin2x2048-8500C5DF as I am now thinking I should avoid too much expense until: 1) I know more of what I am doing!; and 2) I am thinking of avoiding Vista 64bit until we see how games work out on the 32. I am amazed how I have found a new hobby for the winter at age 48! People like you make it fun. Have a Merry Christmas. Sincerely, Don:):
