The007Fanatic
I have a Toshiba Satellite a215-S7411 model and so far I have tried two different brands of memory and had issues. I purchased a 2GB kit from ******** and a 4GB XXX kit from Fry's Electronics. I can install any one of those modules in the top memory slot but when I put it in the bottom slot, the system passes POST and then I get a black screen with a flashing white cursor in the upper left. I can't boot to anything (hard drive, dvd drive, etc.) with one of these third party modules in the bottom slot, only in the top slot will it boot. I don't think there's anything wrong with the slot itself since the BIOS recognizes it and the laptop does it's normal test of the RAM upon boot but then goes to that blank screen. I can put one of the original 512mb sticks which according to CPU-Z are Hyundai branded into the bottom slot and put either a 2GB or 1GB stick in the top slot and no problems other than it's not running in dual channel mode. I'm not the first person that has had this problem but nobody seems to know why this happens. I want to try Corsair to see if it works in the bottom slot but I don't want to buy something that I can't return so I would really like to know ahead of time if Corsair RAM in the BOTTOM slot will work because I'm certain it will work in the top memory slot. BIOS is updated to latest version and Memtest tested all modules to be error free after an hour. Model Specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 @1.7ghz 1GB DDR2 PC2 5300 (comes standard) ATI Radeon X1200(IGP) Windows Vista Premium
Wired
Are you attempting to use memory from different manufacturers in the same system? That's never recommended. Sorry, but I don't see your model listed on Corsair's Configurator site: http://www.corsair.com/configurator/
The007Fanatic
Are you attempting to use memory from different manufacturers in the same system? That's never recommended. Sorry, but I don't see your model listed on Corsair's Configurator site: http://www.corsair.com/configurator/ Not with the dual channel configuration. Each 1GB module is from the same manufacturer and each 2GB is from the same manufacturer (sold in kits). Currently I have one of the 2GB sticks in the top slot and one of the original 512mb sticks in the bottom slot and it works fine but not in dual channel mode. The a215 laptops are listed in the configurator but that's just generalized since there are a ton of different a215 models out there. Like I said, this is the a215-s7411. The007Fanatic
There's a TigerDirect store on my way home so I stopped and picked up a stick of Corsair RAM just to test it out in the laptop. Guess what...it works in the bottom slot!! I was VERY pleased that it worked and obviously this laptop is extremely picky when it comes to RAM so if anyone should read this, keep this in mind about the a215 Toshiba series!
skull1leader
I had the same problem, the bottom slot kept reading the memory and the top one crapped out on me. I messed around with it for a couple of hours. I finally got it to work " you just need to push the ram module all the way in to make 100% contact with the pins". Thats all it took for me and I'm upgraded to 4GB of ram , i got scared for a minute thought i would have to have my notebook serviced.
