dyfi
I have tried 2 types of Corsair memory but both give error messages and computer will not launch into system setup/post. Bios will not allow change to any memory settings. I understand SC 440 can use either ECC or Non - ECC memory but not mixed. Any suggestions why this memory is not recognized? bigbuck08
If this, Dell PowerEdge SC440, is the correct PC it doesnt support DDRII 800 RAM. "Four ECC DDR-2 533/667 SDRAM DIMM sockets for up to 4 GB of memory"

This is because Dell does something to all of its BIOSes so that any aftermarket DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) memory modules would be detected as though they support only a single, fixed DDR2-800 speed, causing detection of an "invalid SPD" on those systems (SPD programs for lower speeds, if any, are completely ignored by Dell BIOSes). And when an "invalid SPD" is detected by the Dell BIOS, the system wll refuse to even POST. And Dell BIOSes can only use SPD=programmed settings, and have no provision at all whatsoever to even manually change the memory clock speed, let alone the latency timings or DIMM voltage. scyang
I was not successful in using the VS2GBKIT667D2 in my server, as RJLeong suggested. How many of you are successful using the TWIN2X2048-6400 ? or any other Corsair, brands of memory? My SC440 came with Nanya model of memory. Please help me out, since I'm not ready to buy the upgrade from Dell at $85 a piece of the 1GB DIMM. Does the Dell motherboard strictly require certain brand and model of DIMM? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 12, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 12, 2007 That system takes Fully Buffered ECC DDR2 memory and I am sorry we do not offer that type of memory any more.
RJLeong65
Actually, the PowerEdge SC440 uses an Intel 3000 small server chipset, which is designed for unbuffered DDR2 memory. (By contrast, Intel's chipsets for larger server systems require the use of registered DDR2 memory.) With that said, it is surprising that the SC440 would reject the Corsair Value Select DDR2-667 modules (unless, of course, the system OEM tinkers around with its motherboard so that it requires the use of ECC memory). However, in Dell's OEM tradition, the motherboard's BIOS might not include any provision at all whatsoever to manually enable or disable the memory's ECC feature. If that's the case, and the SC440's BIOS were designed exclusively with ECC memory in mind, then the SC440 would have required the use of unbuffered ECC memory (since the ECC feature is permanently enabled on that system, and cannot be disabled at all whatsoever), and Corsair does not currently make unbuffered ECC modules of any type. (All of the current Value Select and XMS2/TWIN2X lines are not only unbuffered, but also non-ECC.) Registered and fully-buffered DDR2 memory will not work on the Intel 3000/3010 chipset series (the only difference between the 3000 and the 3010 is the PCI-E graphics slot on the 3000 has only x8 capability while that of the 3010 has full x16 capability) used in the SC440. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 12, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 12, 2007 Thats odd now the search is showing un-buffered memory. But they are all single rank modules. And ECC but Non registered and I am sorry to say we do not offer Non-buffered ECC memory.
