fraggot
Well to put it simply, I can't get my PC to boot with all 4 gigs of ram installed. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit, and nothing I've done will get it to boot. If I set all the timings and so on to auto, it won't even POST with 4 gigs installed. If I change the timings to 5-5-5-12 2t and set the voltage to 1.9v, it'll post, but then it won't boot Vista. I'm still new to most of memory related issues as this is my first PC build. I tried the ASUS forums and so on, but they don't seem to be as much of a help. Motherboard: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Memory: 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 Dual Channel Video Card # 1: EVGA nVidia GeForce 8600GTS 512mb Hard Drive # 1: WD Raptor 150GB 10,000rpm Hard Drive # 2: WD Caviar 250GB SATA 3.0 7,200rpm Hard Drive # 3: 250GB 7,200rpm Hard Drive # 4: WD MyBook 500GB Optical Drive # 1: LiteOn DVD-RW 20x Power Supply: ******** GameXStream ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V Case: COOLER MASTER CM Stacker STC-T01-UWK Black/ Silver Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case Sound Card: SouthMAX Intergrated Digital HD Monitor: DELL E733c 17in So I've just reverted back to installing 2 gigs so they'll run at dual channel(better performance then 3 gigs at single channel as far as I know). I'd really love to get my moneys worth and be able to use everything I paid for. So really, if someone could help me, it'd be greatly appreciated. DerekT
The issue is that when one populates all four DRAM slots, the On CPU memory controller can not access and load the DRAM at the full speed of the DRAM. The On CPU memory controller is now slower due to having to access four DRAM slots as opposed to two DRAM slots. So you have to drop the bandwidth to achieve a stabilty. Remove two sticksDownload memtest from http://www.memtest.org and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk.Restart the systemEnter your BIOS Setup UtilitySet the DRAM Speed to 667MhzSet the DRAM timings to 5-5-5-12 2TSet the DRAM Voltage to 2.0vSave settingsShut the system down and insert the second set of sticksRestart your systemBoot to the Memtest CDAllow Memtest to run for 2 full passesIf stable, enter Windows AI Over Clock Tuner: Manual CPU External Frequency: Manually set to 200MHz DDR2 SDRAM Clock: Manually set to 667MHz PCI Express Freq: 100 PCI Freq: 33.33 Performance Mode: Manual DRAM Timing Selectable: Manual SDRAM CAS Latency: 5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 5T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 12T Command Rate: 2T DDR2 SDRAM Voltage: 2.0v Results? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 5, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 5, 2007 Have you tested the modules one at a time to make sure one is not failing? And with 4 modules I would set the NB/MCH Voltage to +.05 Volts as well, and if you have an ASUS MB you will need to Disable Legacy USB when running any memory test. fraggot
Have you tested the modules one at a time to make sure one is not failing? And with 4 modules I would set the NB/MCH Voltage to +.05 Volts as well, and if you have an ASUS MB you will need to Disable Legacy USB when running any memory test. Well no matter what I do, no matter which stick, I always get errors, but I see no problems with them at all, but I finally discovered one of the sticks are bad. I suppose that's the big reason why I couldn't install all 4 at once. I only hope now that Newegg will allow me to send back just one stick instead of all 4, because I ordered them all at once. The only other question I had though, since it apparently causes more problems to run 4x1 at once, would it be better in the long run to just get to 2x2 instead? bigbuck08
You should send the kit back to make sure you get a matched pair in return.
