yumram
Hi I've got 2 pairs of TWIN2X2048-6400C4 in my M2N-SLI Deluxe and enjoy random freezes (and ever since I've activated the APIC watchdog: random brute-force reboots). As it's a sort of a server, I couldn't perform a full memtest yet, but will do so soon. Meanwhile: I've read in another thread that with 4 units you should reduce the RAM freq to 667MHz to prevent CPU outspeeding. Is this necessary for an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ 65nm (A2)? And do any other BIOS settings differ from those state on RAMGUY's "What are the correct timings for My Module?" page if you have two pairs inside an M2N-SLI Deluxe instead of just one pair? (If so, you might want to add a note on the timings page.) Many thanks for your help! -sven
DerekT
Meanwhile: I've read in another thread that with 4 units you should reduce the RAM freq to 667MHz to prevent CPU outspeeding. Is this necessary for an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ 65nm (A2)? The issue is that the On CPU Memory Controller can not achieve the same data access and load speeds that it does with 2 slots filled when you fill four slots. You need to drop the Bandwidth speed to gain an acceptable Memory Controller <--> DRAM ratio. You can then overclock your HTT (CPU) <--> Memory Controller (CPU) <--> DRAM and regain some of your lost bandwidth. When you overclock the CPU, you concurrently raise the speed of the on CPU memory controller and thus gain an ability to run the DRAM faster since it is capable and now the controller is faster. You may well need to raise some HTT voltages to gain stability though and you have to be careful to only moderately overclock the CPU as the AMD on CPU memory controllers are known to behave wonky with high overclocks and four DRAM slots populated. yumram
Yup, that did the trick. 7 days up and running. What a relief! Thanks for the hints!
