CPUZ Showing WRONG memory part number!

Hi,

I purchased 3 lots of T2X2048-6400C4 (So six 1GB sticks in all) from a repuatable dealer (DABS)

I placed 4 sticks in an EVGA 650i Ultra motherboard, wouldn't POST at first, took out 1 stick and POST ran ok, rechecked, same again, updated BIOS and replaced 4th stick, now boots up ok and seems to work fine.

Anyway, when i ran CPUZ, it stated under the SPD tab that 1 had 3 sticks of 6400C4 and 1 Stick of 6400!! And all the memory timings were different to back this fact up! So i physically checked all the labels and they all said they were the C4 version with 4-4-4 timing, reinserted them, same problem, swopped the slot position of the offending RAM and again CPUZ said the same but reported it in a different slot!

So bearing in mind i have 2 spare sticks i try another one, SAME problem, i try the final sixth stick, and CPUZ confirms they are now ALL C4 sticks!

So i bought 3 packs of 2, 1 had the correct sticks in it, the 2nd had one wrong, and the 3rd pack has one wrong! All are labeled correctly though.

What is going on? How can this have happened? Has it happened before?

And what can i do!?

Thank You

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, with all due respect, i was hoping for a better explanation, i am a system builder and buy a lot of memory, (a lot of corsair memory too!) I am happy to say that i have never had to return a corsair module before due to malfunction...

However, It was only coincidence that i was using CPUZ on this particular build that i noticed this error, (How many others may have been like this!?, Who knows!) i would normally take for granted that the memory is what it says it is on the label as i'm sure everyone else would!

I really would like to know what this "Mistake" is, do you mean CPUZ is reading it wrong? do you mean that there has been a mistake in the manufacturing process? If so how could they have been tested in matched pairs and passed? How could they have been labeled wrong? And, there were TWO packs like this, not just one, so something is seriously wrong somewhere!

I really need an explanation to this if i am to continue purchasing corsair memory...

Kind Regards

Most likely the SPD was programmed with the wrong part number information. If they were shipped in the same package then they were tested together in a dual channel configuration at 4-4-4-12 at 800MHz with 2.1 volts. If you want to be sure that the module is being detected correctly by CPU-Z I would recommend that you swap modules and try different DIMM slots on the board to see if it detects it as a 6400 part consistently.
