Bad together, Good individually

Please refer to this post: Memtest86 v3.3 vs Memtest86+ v1.7 for background info.

So, together these sticks report errors, yet I can boot and operate normally it appears. Individually, each stick checks out good after 6 passes, no errors.

What do I check next? I would like to oc, but I think I should know where the weak link is, right?

I will be up for a while, I still have hair that I haven't pulled out yet.

Thanks, Dave

Hey Derek, thanks for fixing link. Sorry bout the double thread.

As you can see, I tested both together at your recommended settings: 4-4-4-12 @2.1V

OUTCOME: together they produced errors within 2 hrs

individually they did not produce errors after 6 passes each

I am running them at 2.1V, I think board can go to 2.2V?

Ramguy: in the other thread, you said to just RMA them. Even if they are good by themselves?

If you guys want you can delete one of these threads. Like I need anymore confusion!!:o:

If each stick tests out fine, then very likely the issue is not the DRAM. You can, if you like RMA the sticks. I personally think the issue is that the board is a bit wonky on the lower timings. If you RMA and the issue remains, then you can look to the motherboard at any rate. The first Bad Axe iteration was very finicky about JEDEC DRAM settings which are 5-5-5-18 @ 1.8v.

Hey, thanks a lot Derek for your help. I am probly going to upgrade board soon (give this one to bro with kingston sticks orig built with), so I won't RMA til I have tried em in the new board.

Any suggestions on a new mobo? Just kidding, I'll do some looking around. Thanks again, Dave

Sure thing. Regarding motherboards. I would personally go with the P35 chipset as it is the most allowing of 4 - 8GB DRAM. My choice at this time would be the P5K-E mainboard. It will allow you to use Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad with 4GB. Keep in mind that if you wish to address all 4GB then you will need a 64Bit Operating System such as WinXP 64/VISTA 64/Linux, etc.
