scraper
Hello Since about 1 Week I can't do anything with my flash drive. It even won't be listed in the explorer. I also tried to format it with an win98 bootdisk, but the drive wasn't listed there. Are there any other ways to solve the problem? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 19, 2007 Did you set the drive as a Boot device in the Boot menu of the MB BIOS?
scraper
No, I can only see it in the Explorer, but it is not available, I can't format it, and none of all the recovery tools can see the drive.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 20, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 20, 2007 You will have to set it as a BOOT device in the BIOS in order to use a Win9X Boot floppy.
scraper
Actually i don't have a floppy drive, so i used another bootdisk on cd. It also startet and i could also use fdisk, but i couldn't find my usb drive on the list of drives or harddisks ...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 21, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 21, 2007 Please check with the Maker of the MB or System for how to do that, but if you cannot set it as a book device then I am sorry you would need to use another system. scraper
I tried everything I mentioned above on 3 different systems, all with different hardware. I also tried to use it on XP or Vista, but everywhere the same problems.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 25, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 25, 2007 Did you figure out how to make it a boot device in the BOOT menu of your BIOS? That is the first step, and what is the make and model of MB you are using if not?
scraper
I think I don't know exactly what you mean. On every computer I tried these things I had the option to set an USB drive as a boot device. But as far as I know, in my case, I have to boot with de CD ROM to boot the Win98 Bootdisk. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2007 That would be two totally different issues, again if the USB device is not listed in the BOOT menu it will never work. Can you call our Tech support and we can try to help. 800-205-7657.
scraper
The USB drive is definitely NOT listet. I thought I wrote that in a statement above. And this is also my problem, I could have solved the problem on my own if it was listed. I think I need to exchange the Drive. There are two with the same problem. One is an older Voyager with 2 GB, and also a newer one Voyager GT with 8 GB. I won't call the support, because I'm from switzerland, and I don't want to spend a lot of money just for calls. regards scraper
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 3, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 3, 2007 There is no need to RMA the drives, its not a flash drive problem. I would check with the MB Maker on how to make a Flash Drive show up in BIOS as a Bootable device.
scraper
I recently could format the one 8GB Drive under Knoppix but with the other it wasn't possible either. Today i copied several files on the device and after a few minutes I got an error. Now I have the same problem again. I seriously doubt that it is a motherboard problem because it's a new EVGA 680i SLI board. If it wouldn't work with that one, what else would? I want an RMA now and get the problem fixed please! Thanks in advance. greetings Benjamin
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 7, 2008 Is the Flash Drive listed in the Boot menu of the MB BIOS? If not this it's not then doing a RMA on the flash drive will not solve the problem. Did you contact the MB Makers Tech support on how to set that as a boot able device? scraper
I could see the drive in the BIOS and at the system, but before I was able to format it I could read the root files, but I could not change the directory. When I did so the drive was unreadable afterwards. So the next step was to format it. Under Knoppix it was possible (FAT32), but not under Windows (not WinXP nor Vista). I could see the drive under Vista/XP but not read/write any files. It also wasn't listet in the Disk Management. I could see the drive on two different systems at the BIOS but not in the fdisk program (booted with Win98 on a CD). I also could format it under Knoppix. It was writable for a few minutes (under Windows XP again) but then I got an error and the old problem occurred again. So my conclusion is, that there must be something broken at the hardware of the stick. You also can't think that any user can solve difficult computer problems. I, as your customer, expect that the things I buy will work without any special treatment or that I have to repair it by myself when it's broken. That's why there is a warranty for the product, isn't it? I tried a lot of things to get the sticks working but all my attempts were in vain. And as I told you I also tried the thing with booting with a Win98 system. You can't possibly expect from every user to do that. E.g. I don't need a Floppy drive, but you assume that from every user that has a problem with his stick. I tried it with a Win98 bootdisk with the fdisk programm on it. It didn't work. So now I suggest you give me that RMA that I can send you that stick and get a fixed/new one. I always thought that corsair is a very good producer of computer hardware, and I bought several things. Please don't make me change my mind in this case. Thank you! Regards Benjamin Edit: The sticks were not broken when I bought them. They worked well and they where also very fast. The problem occurred a few month during the use of the stick. So it can not be a problem of the MB.
