Vista Rating 5.2 on CORSAIR MSX2 4G(2x2)?

Recommended Posts

I currently purchased 4 gigs of Corsair MSX2 due to the high ratings it got on newegg and how great it runs on Vista 64. I would like to say I am very happy with it in regards to stability and just simply not having any problems with it posting the first time! However, In the Vista experiece rating I am only getting a score of 5.2...

I wouldn't have a problem with this except I have heard alot of people claiming to get a 5.9 vista score (all my others scores are 5.9) so I feel I am doing something wrong.

I have this running at 800mhz and timings are set to auto. My Q6600 GO is OC'd to 3000mhz (333x9)...any suggestions would be much appreciated :)

Ok DerekT...here is the snaps of my CPU,SPD and Memory.

SPD

For some reason I had to put my cpu on some type of load for it to read the proper clock speed....if it was idle it would only be at 2ghz...then if I was watching youtube it would go to the correct 3ghz. Is that the way its supposed to be?

Thanks for your help Derek!

Yes, that's Intel EIST and is especially useful for the Quad core. I was going to help you with an overclock but it looks as though you have done some of the work already.

Download memtest from http://www.memtest.org and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk.

I would think that you can improve by setting your FSB from 333MHz to 357MHz. This will increase your processor speed to ~3.2Ghz and your DRAM to 427 X 2 = 856Mhz. Set your timings manually to 5-5-5-12 with 2.0v and retest with Memtest. Boot to the optical drive with the memtest disk and allow for two full passes.

What program have you used to test for Overclock stability?

DerekT...you are a Genius!

I set all the timings and uped the voltage to 2.0 and my score is now 5.9!

Now I downloaded that ISO and burnt it to a cd but I was not able to boot up with that...I have no clue how to use it. My CPU voltage is the same as it was before I Overclocked it the first time...and I ran Prime95 for an hour and it was ok...should i increase voltage this time?

Also, is there a CPU temp program I can use for windows Vista 64? I can't get Coretemp to work with this OS.

Right-Click on the Core Temp file, choose Properties, under Properties, choose Compartibility Mode and choose Win XP.

Download This

Then Extract this archive to your CoreTemp directory ie for default C:\Program Files\CoreTemp\

The be certain that befor you start the actual "CoreTemp.exe", you run "coretemp-startup.bat"

This will load the CoreTemp driver and thus will allow CoreTemp to function normally without having to disable driver signing.

Regarding the ISO. You must download the archive and extract the ISO image. Then you burn the image to CD.

Run Prime95 for ~8 hours to be certain. If you do not fail with Prime95 for 8 hours then do not increase the CPU voltage. It's not necessary.

Well I am really having a hard time getting this thing to work (memtest). It wont boot up when I set bios to boot in CD, it will just skip and go strait to windows. Just curious but what is the purpose of this memory test?

I did get the CoreTem to work....my temps are no higher than 39 on any of the cores...does that sound right? Its a little cold here but ambient temp cant be any lower than 70F. if thats the real temp than I am happy!

btw, I have played UT3 (Unreal Tournament 3)for about 2 hours strait and it has ran beautifully!

You need to burn the ISO as an image. The Memtest tests your memory for any faults. You don't have to use it and if your system does not experience any issues then you are pretty much allright. Since Corsair warrants this memory for lifetime, you are under a fine safety umbrella anyway.

Have fun :)

Thanks Derek, I really appreciate your help!

I came here a few years ago with DRAM issues. Now I have played the RMA game with many hardware manufacturers. The game was not played here. Corsair has always treated me well when I have had DRAM issues and since I build quite a few systems, there have been issues. I come here now to help pay back that treatment.

It's all good. Glad you are happy. Let us know if you have any more issues and you are indeed welcome.

Time for me to get back to Crysis management....

Download Prime95 (OS: 9x/Me/NT/2k/XP) ---> Here

Download Prime95 (OS: XP x64/2003 x64) ---> Here

You must test with Memtest first, and since you are having issues, let the Memtest run a good five passes. This is necessary to prove stability.

Run Prime95 for ~8 hours. You can use the program (not gaming, etc.) for e-mail, browsing, etc. while you Prime.

Results?
