Click
I had 2 (twinx) 512 sticks of XMS extreme low latency ram for about 4 years now. All of the sudded Windows started randomly restarting. After a while I heard of memtest from a friend and ran it, I have a red screen. I took out hte one stick and ran memtest again. 0 zip nada errors. I did an RMA and sent both modules back since they were a twinx pair. I limped along with a single 512 Kingston Value Ram and a windows file got corrupted or something as it wouldnt boot. I had just got my two replacements so I popped them in and reformatted and installed windows. Well not quite, while copying the windows files over (still in blue dos windows setup screen) i got a BSOD. I tried again and had a problem. I ran memtest on my newly arrived sticks of ram. Loads of red! I wondered if my mobo was going bad or something and removed one stick and tested again; well only one red line but still bad. I took that stick out and replaced it with the stick i took out previously and put it in the same slot. Got loads of red errors. I the took that stick out and put my stick of Kingston valueram in the SAME slot and had no errors. I started installing windows and got through the blue windows dos setup and was finishing up the installation on the hdd and it gave me a memory via BSOD. Well I left the low latency settings on for my stick of value ram, probably no tthe best. I am going to try again tonight to reinstall windows with everything correct. I noticed when I recieved my ram it looked dusty, closer inspection reveled that some of the black paint was missing, and holding it to the light certain parts had that purple hue, like that of a Sharpie marker. I realize it is not cost effective to me handing out brandnew sticks of ram but I wished they worked after returning them!!!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 14, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 14, 2007 What is the part number on the modules? and did you try and load setup defaults in the BIOS setup and then set the tested settings for the specific modules they sent you? And then test them with http://www.memtest.org, but the fact you get the same errors with either module would suggest the old and new modules may not be or have the same settings and the BIOS just needs to be reset.
