620HX Loose Connector

Brand new 620HX, haven't even powered it up yet. In the process of rebuilding and still waiting for some components. I stupidly pulled a cable out of the connector without pushing the locking clip. The connector pulled part way out of the case. I pushed it back in, but not sure if I should power up the PSU. Could I have broken a solder joint inside? It is the 5 pin connector closest to the main cables coming out of the back. Realizing my stupidity already voided the warranty, I removed the cover from the PSU, but could not see anything. The solder joints on the circuit board directly behind the connector look intact.

Could I be so lucky that the connectors plug into pins on the circuit board? Or is that just wishful thinking and I am the proud owner of a brand new doorstop?

Advice and a hard kick in the a$$ are welcome.

Whether you made a mistake or not, you are under Corsair's Umbrella Warranty :)

The staff will be here tomorrow to address this issue. I have the same power supply and checked it out. You would have to pull very hard to remove the cord from the base lock. Very doubtful, but Corsair Reps should answer this question.

I would leave it until they answer tomorrow. :)

I copied the picture from the "Which rail is which? " stickey and marked the affected connector. That connector was pulled out about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch from the back of the PSU housing. I've already pushed the connector back into the housing and don't want to re-create the problem.

Behind all of those connectors is a circuit board mounted perpendicular to the connectors. I had the PSU installed when I noticed the problem and could not see into the connector from the end. What I'm wondering, and hoping, is that the pins inside the connector are soldered to the circuit board and what I pulled out was the plastic "frame" around the pins. As I said in my original post, the solder joints on the back side of that circuit board directly opposite that connector look intact. Could this be the case?

I hope I'm explaining myself enough. And I've never attached a picture to a forum post so I hope I do that right also.

What I'm worried about is that I caused some type of damage to the PSU that would damage other components when I power up. If it's just a matter of the PSU and/or that particular connector not working, I could deal with that. I just don't want to damage anything else. Actually, I can get by without using that connector at all. I was going to dedicate that rail to my graphics card, in which case I would use the PCI-e connector above it.

Thank you for any advice/information you can give.

Thanks for the reply, Ram Guy. And for your help also, DerekT. Been working some long hours and just now getting some free time.

I was reading the sticky about testing PSU's and remembered that I have an Antec PSU Tester. Of course, it's a limited test, probably pretty much like in the stickey. But I used it, and the PSU does power up. I also plugged in a fan on all the connectors/ports on the PSU and it worked also. Considering how anxious I am to get this running, and with the holiday coming up, I think I'll chance it. I realize I'm pushing the warranty limits now because I caused the problem and I also opened the case. I will be pushing them further by powering it up knowing their MAY be a problem. But I'm willing to pay for my mistakes. As I said earlier, I don't need to use that connector/port anyway.

I just hope I don't have the PSU/ABIT IP35 problem. If it doesn't work, I won't really know if it's due to that or the situation I caused.

Once again, thank you both for your time. The fact that your ready to replace it under these circumstances says a lot about the quality of the product and the company I'm dealing with.
