kethix
Hello everyone, I know there's a lot of threat about this but I've tryed most of the thing written in them but still, I can't get it to work proprely. I runned 4gig on Vista 64bits for about 6months without a problem and for no apparent reason tonight (while playing COD4) the computer crashed. And now he just wont boot with 4gig. Sometimes I'm getting a blue screen at vista's loading screen or, most of the time, there's simply nothing happening when I start my computer... only a black screen laughing at me. So what i've tryed: The guide in the FAQ for my type of ram. The patch KD9997 or whatever is the name for the 3+gig ram problem. Loading the default bios. Clearing CMOS. The only thing working now is running 2gig...wich kinda sucks ;) So if anybody know what could help, that would be great. Thanks in advance. DerekT
Have you set your DRAM to 667Mhz? This is a common occurrence when you do not drop your DRAM throughput. Sooner or later issues often arise because the memory controller is not able to access and load the DRAM with 4 banks populated at the full speed of the KIT (2 Banks). Drop the DRAM bandwidth to 667Mhz and retest.
kethix
Yes my DRam is set to 667Mhz at 4-4-4-12 (2T) with 2.1V. Working with 2gig, not with 4. When i boot with 4gigs, nothings happen..there's only a black screen. I can't go in the bios or do anything. I tryed clearing the Cmos and rebooting, nothing there too. So yeah... Thanks for the fast answer by the way, much appreciated. :)
DerekT
When it worked for six months, were you running it then at 667MHz? Can you test each set of DRAM with Memtest? I assume you have tried the usual settings I have given for your board on other threads?

I haven't found the usual settings you're talking about for my specific board but I've tryed that from the FAQ: Testing parameters for Twinx/XMS2-6400C4D: Twin2x2048-6400C4D Data Sheet Motherboard make and model: Asus P5B, P5WD2 or M2N32-SLI Premium/Deluxe Each pair is tested and packaged together using the following settings: AI Over Clock Tuner: Manual CPU External Frequency: Manually set to 200MHz DDR2 SDRAM Clock: Manually set to 800MHz PCI Express Freq: Auto PCI Freq: 33.33 Performance Mode: Standard DRAM Timing Selectable: Manual SDRAM CAS Latency: 4T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 4T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 4T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 12T SDRAM Write Recovery Time: 5 Write to Precharge Delay: 15 (If its Listed) Command Rate: 2T DDR2 SDRAM Voltage: 2.1 CPU Core Voltage: Auto FSB Termination V: 1.50 V MCH Chipset V: 1.65V ICH Chipset V: 1.20V All other settings are motherboard defaults. DerekT
Download memtest from http://www.memtest.org and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk. Shut your system down. Install two sticks and restart. Enter your BIOS. Load system setup defaults, save setup defaults, set your Vdimm (DRAM Voltage) to 2.1v and restart. Enter your bios and set to the below settings. Save settings and shut down. Insert the second set of DRAM. Restart. kethix
ok, I did what you asked, Tryed to start with 4gigs, black screen with LCD saying "DET DRAM" like always, so went down to 1gig, booted well. Added another gig, not working... so I switch that stick I just added with another one and it worked. So right now I'm up to 3gigs, but it look like my other stick isn't working anymore. Everytime I'm adding it or letting that stick only I get the black screen.
kethix
It's possible that the memory just dies like that for no apparent reason?
DerekT
It's possible that the memory just dies like that for no apparent reason? When you move to populating 4 DRAM banks, issues can and do arise. Certainly more often than with population of 2 DRAM banks. ok, I did what you asked, Tryed to start with 4gigs, black screen with LCD saying "DET DRAM" like always, so went down to 1gig, booted well. kethix
Yeah, I tested 3 of them. With the 4th stick I can't get into memtest because nothing happens when I boot the computer. Even when it's the only stick connected on my motherboard, I still get that black screen.
DerekT
So three test out fine and one does not even boot the system when placed alone. RAM GUY will deal with this on Monday working hours. Please check back then :)
