Wolf55055
I was wondering, Will the CMX512-3200C2PRO work in dual channel? I'm upgrading my memory, and I'm not the richest person in the world. I've noticed the 512k sticks are a lot cheaper then the 1Gb sticks. So I'm going with 4 x 512k sticks of CMX512-3200C2PRO.... but I first need to know if they will work in dual channel. :sigh!: Thanks in advance to all responders ~Wolf~
DerekT
Populating all four DRAM banks is a throw of the dice. You will, very likely, have to drop the DRAM throughput to gain stability. Some boards will not work at all with four DRAM banks populated. I would advise you to purchase 2 X 1024MB sticks. You will have less possibilities of errors. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2007 It will also depend upon your MOBO, could you please list your system specifications? Also, when you add memory, you need to exactly match the existing memory on type/speed/revision.
Wolf55055
My motherboard is a Asus P4P800-E Deluxe 865PE socket 478. I ordered a few 512 sticks for another system I'm building.. the question I have for this one is, the sticks came with different versions I think. 2 say XMS3202v4.1, another v1.2 and the other v1.1....... Will these work together? Or do I have to adjust the settings on the motherboard to get them to work together? Or am I for lack of a better word, screwed? DerekT
Or am I for lack of a better word, screwed? It's hard to say. You have to test them and find out if you make a match. Set the DRAM to 333Mhz, DRAM Voltage to 2.8V, Timings to 3-4-4-8 and Command Rate to 2T. Download memtest from http://www.memtest.org and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk. Boot to the optical drive with the memtest disk and allow for two full passes.

I've looked into the bios and I'm uncertain which memory settings to toy with. As I've said I have an Asus P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard. So far I THINK I might have found the timing... but the Mhz, Voltage and Command Rate settings I have yet to discover. Actually, just go ahead and tell me where everything is. Please oh please help... my computer get's an atitude with me at times... and now seems to be one of them.

Actually, the timings should be 2.5-3-3-7 @ DDR333 speed, and the DIMM voltage should be 2.8V, with four modules installed. This is because a setting of 3-4-4-8 is not officially supported by JEDEC at that speed. And 3-4-4-8 @ DDR333 would be equivalent to a very loose 4-5-5-10 @ DDR400, which is also not officially supported by JEDEC.
Wolf55055
Okay... I put 2 of them in and it boots.... Put 4 of them in and it pops up saying Bad Checksum, and starts searching for a boot disk. Put 3 of them in and it boots... in single channel config of course. I still am uncertain as to how or where to change the timing, command rate and such and I need a detailed instruction set. I still really don't understand why 3 will work but 4 does not. I've tried to run memtest.... but it won't run the cd.. and yes I have the cdrom set to boot 1st. Really could use some help with this one guys and gals. I feel stupid for asking these questions but I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 19, 2007 I would set the memory frequency at DDR333 and set the timings to Cas 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.75 Volts.

I'm not confident on which area and name of the settings I'm changing. Also, I'm having a problem getting memtest to run.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2007 I would suggest calling our Tech support at 800-205-7657 and we can help you with the settings if you are not sure but something like this: Memory Frequency: 166MHz Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts Memory Timings: Manual/User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 7T
