Cyanide1626862366
I'm having a hell of a time getting my system to POST ANYTHING. Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe AMD Athlon x2 4600+ (Socket AM2) WD 150Gb Raptor (Main boot HD) WD 400Gb Caviar (Secondary storage HD) Sapphire Radeon X1950XT Creative Labs X-Fi Fatal1ty Gamer Edition Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate Edition This system was originally built a little over a year ago and I had bought 2Gb of the TWIN2X2048-6400C4. Worked fine, had to set memory settings manually in the motherboard which wasn't too big of a deal. Fast forward to a week ago I decided to get another 2Gb for a total of 4Gb in my system and bought the EXACT same memory from Newegg. I installed it and they too worked fine. I decided to order AMD's 5000+ Black Edition CPU and overclock it for an upgrade. In preparation for that upgrade I decided to flash my motherboard to it's latest software (v.1203). That's where all hell broke loose. After the firmware update (which was completed successfully) the system wouldn't boot Vista. I reset the CMOS and it wouldn't get past POST. Took 2Gb out, reset the CMOS again and finally it POSTed and booted into Vista. Manually changed all my settings in my BIOS again, restarted the computer, booted into Vista and made sure the settings were OK, via CPU-Z. Shutdown the computer and put the extra 2Gb in and it gives me the 1 long beep, 3 short beeps error. And that's where I'm stuck at, it'll POST and boot fine in a 2Gb configuration, but as soon as I put in the extra 2Gb it just gives me those beeps and won't even POST anymore. And now it won't even POST with just ONE stick of 1Gb RAM in there. Help :(
DerekT
Remove the power plug. Remove the CMOS Battery. Let stand for 10 minutes. Insert two sticks of DRAMRestart the systemEnter the BIOSSet your DRAM Bandwidth to 667MhzSet your timing to 4-4-4-12Set your Vdimm to 2.1vShut the system downInsert the second set of DRAMRestart the system Download memtest from http://www.memtest.org and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk. Boot to the optical drive with the memtest disk and allow for two full passes. Results?
Cyanide1626862366
Tried what you suggested and it still won't get past the full screen logo POST. It just stops there, even if I try to enter BIOS it won't let me do anything.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2007 With two modules boot into Windows and then download and install the following patch, then try Dereks instructions once more: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777

It just stops booting at the Ai Life Asus logo. I think the motherboard might have somehow died. And my Windows Vista already had that patch installed. DerekT
;316415']It won't boot past POST with 1Gb or 2Gb. If you have tried with both sticks singly and it will not post after doing the instructions I gave, the I would look at the motherboard/power supply as a source of the error. Yeah I ordered a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 which should be here tomorrow. Is there anything specific I need to do to make these 4Gb to work properly? Because I bought them specifically to run then in DDR2-800.
DerekT
;316485']Do these sticks ONLY work in DDR2-667? Because I bought them specifically to run then in DDR2-800. These sticks work at DDR2-800 in their "KIT" Dual Channel mode. You are doubling that capacity and the on CPU AMD memory controller has to now work twice as hard to access and load the DRAM banks. It needs more time to do this.

DerekT
You're very welcome. You can, via a slight overclock of the CPU <--> MCH <--> DRAM gain some of the lost bandwidth back. Post in the Enthusiast section if you need help with that. Link to this thread.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2007 Did you manually set the memory to 800MHz previously or leave it at auto? Some BIOS revisions may automatically change the memory frequency to 667MHz when they detect 4 modules.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2007 Might be a bug with the new BIOS, I would try going back to your old BIOS version, loading defaults and reconfiguring the settings manually. Let us know if you are able to give it a shot!

DerekT
;316555']I manually set it to 800MHZ. This could be the reason why your board is not working anymore. However, some do make the grade but it is a hit and miss thing and many people end up with non working boards, dram or both because the memory controller has issues with loading and accessing DRAM that quickly. Research this. Go to other forums. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/ http://www.overclock.net http://www.ocforums.com etc. and see for yourself. If you want to set to full bore and you again have issues sooner or later, then at least you were informed this time. It's your time, inclination and money. Cyanide1626862366
Well the new motherboard did the trick. I'm running all 4Gb at DDR2-800 on AMD's 5000+ Black Edition CPU @ 3Ghz (15x200) on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
