NewBuilder
I fried my brain on trying to understand it all so plz forgive me if I am asking and 'already posted question'. I am looking to make a new build. I was reading here and other places that the P5K cant really handle 4x1gb of 6400 at 800mhz; and that the freq has to be dropped to 677mhz. So I should use 2x2's I got confused with Vista 32 or Vista 64 being involved. I believe the V32 cant 'see' all 4gb of ram? But V64 can? Anyway, Id like to get the P5k board bc its about $90 cheaper then the P5E. However, if I need to purchase 2x2 sticks instead of 4x1 then I gotta spend a extra $90 anyway. So Id just assume to get the P5E (w/X38) and 4x1's (1) Should I get the X38 with 4x1's or the P35 board with 2x2's? (2) Why/Are Cas 4's less stable then Cas 5's? (3) Also since I want DX 10, I need Vista - So what ver?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 7, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 7, 2007 We have tested the P5K Deluxe with 4 modules running at 1066MHz with no problems, you can see the test results and settings at our Performance Reports (1) Should I get the X38 with 4x1's or the P35 board with 2x2's? (2) Why/Are Cas 4's less stable then Cas 5's? (3) Also since I want DX 10, I need Vista - So what ver? 1. The choice is yours, ideally 2 modules in a system is better than 4. You use less power, there is less loading on the motherboard and you will normally overclock higher with 2 modules than you would with 4. 2. Cas 4 parts are more aggressive and will give you better performance than Cas 5 parts (rated at the same frequency of course) 3. Any 32-Bit operating system will only be able to access 4.0 GB of total system memory, this includes memory on your video card as well as memory used for system resources throughout the motherboard. A 64-Bit OS does not have this limitation and will recognize as much memory as the hardware will support.
NewBuilder
Thanks Ram Guy, I was reading your responses in THIS thread and the issues discussed there. I guess I wanted to know if it was a chipset issue on the P5K (w/P35) and/or would the P5E (w/X38) be affected as well?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2007 In most cases you should be able to run 4 modules on the p35 chipset at 800MHz or even 1066MHz as we have tested on the P5K Deluxe, however in some cases you may need to overclock the board, or downclock the memory frequency. The fact of the matter is, it is possible that some people with identical boards would have different results running the same memory. The X38 chipset is very similar to the P35 chipset, however we have not yet qualified a four module kit of memory with any of the X38 boards.
