Courtylad
Hi Guys, Well what was to be a happy experince has turned quite sour.I have only had this set up a week and cant get the memory to run @ 1066 normal operating speeds for this type of memory. The board as standard only runs @ 800.All items in my machine were recommended by the shop i bought it all from and they stipulated for max performance is to get the faster DDR.They just said clock it and you will be fine.I have upgraded the bios to ver 1305 and installed vista ult several times.Any.....and i mean any attempt to up any settings from AUTO the pc either locks up before post or during start up.Making either it nearly impossible to get into the bios afterwards or killing vista completely and requiring a repair or fresh install.Any advice in the correct settings for my board and memory will be greatly appreciated.Otherwise i will go back to the shop and demand the appropriate DDR....as you can see i have spent a lot of money and very little satisfaction so far.Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 7, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 7, 2007 If you have one set of TWIN2X2048-8500C5D then please try the following. Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and then load optimized defaults and set the following: Memory Voltage: 2.1v FSB Memory Clock Mode: Unlinked FSB QDR MHZ: 1066MHz MEM DDR MHZ: 1066MHz TCL: 5 TRCD: 5 TRP: 5 TRAS: 15 Command Per Clock: 2T
Courtylad
Thanks for the tips but the machine didnt get past the load up bar after the bios screens.BSOD every time. I do have only 2 sticks of 1 gig ram and also the latest bios which is 1305.Couldnt find in the bios optimised settings just a default settings option. To be fair i dont think this board carriest that option.Any other ideas.? Vegga
Hi i'm owner of the striker extreme too and 4x 1GB of 8500 1066mhz corsair dominator xms2 (I bought two packages of 2x 1gb) Well, i'm having the same issues here. it worked with 1.95 V sometimes boot, sometimes don't. would like corsair tell me what is the exact voltage I should set, please. The problem in memory is that I see QDR 1066mhz and DDR 533. In the ultimate way it should be 1066 mhz and 1006 mhz in both ? heard that lowing down the lattency the memory got stable would like to know if that is true. 5-4-4-4-12/15 Any idea if that is a good for a really stable computer ? Other that will be plugged: 8800 ultra and q6600, thermaltake toughtpower 1000w. For the striker owners another beside question, the rail for the external pci plug is attached to your psu ? This is my first post here, so thanks all :)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 7, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 7, 2007 I would recommend that you load setup defaults and then set the memory voltage to 2.1 volts, set the "mem clock mode" to "unlinked" and manually set the "Mem DDR MHz" to 1066MHz, also set the "tRC" setting to 28, and then check to see if the system is stable. Vegga
Ok. Need to know QDR stays 1066mhz and just above it I have DDR 533 as default. So what should I set in this two itens ?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2007 On the Striker board you need to set the Mem DDR MHz setting to 1066MHz in order to run the memory at 1066MHz.
Vegga
Stil the question what is the diferenteb between qdr and ddr. Why one is set to 1066 and another to 533 ? Sorry edition but would be possible for this forum to create a sticky thread only about corsair + asus striker since this is a big issue and hard to put together. There are a lot of people with the same config: striker extreme + corsair pc8500 or 6400 + q6600. We need to find the best solution for ram voltage and timing including the best way to work with the processor. We need find too the best way to run 4gb in 4 diferent slots (4x1gb) this is more a personal problem but already seem it on the forum but a conclusive and definitive solution need to be found for this. This is all math and it should be the best config for striker voltage with corsair ram. I do belive in corsair and asus work and products so we need do something. DerekT
Stil the question what is the diferenteb between qdr and ddr. Why one is set to 1066 and another to 533 ? CPU Native Speed is 266Mhz and with Quad Data rate brings 266 X 4 = 1066Mhz DRAM Native Speed is 266Mhz and with DDR (Double Data Rate) rate brings 266 X 2 = 533Mhz. 533Mhz at Dual Channel brings 533 X 2 = 1066Mhz. Thus you have a 1:1 relationship with a 266MHz FSB Core 2 and 533Mhz DRAM. If you had a Core2 333Mhz FSB Processor, then: CPU Native Speed is 333Mhz and with Quad Data rate brings 333 x 4 = 1333Mhz Dram Native speed is 333Mhz and with DDR (Double Data Rate) brings 333 X 2 = 667Mhz. 667Mhz at Dual Channel rate brings 667 X 2 = 1333Mhz. Thus you have a 1:1 relationship with a 333MHz FSB Core 2 and 667MHz DRAM. Any higher DRAM such as 800Mhz or 1066Mhz, etc. brings about a ratio where the DRAM is running faster than the CPU. Regarding the 2Banks vs 4Banks populated in a motherboard. This issue has to do with the memory controller (on motherboard for Intel and on CPU for AMD) not being able to run at the full 2 Bank speed when 4 banks are being populated. All one has to do is look at the speed which is a maximal for a "Dual Channel Kit" and realize that when you install 2 Dual Channel Kits you now have two sets of Dual Channel and should not expect the 2 Kits to run as fast as one. There are exceptions where sometimes people will either overclock the memory controller via overclock of the CPU FSB, apply a higher voltage to the memory controller and gain a somewhat stable throughput that is higher than if you ran at default with the lower throughput that populating 4 DRAM banks usually requires. Keep in mind that you need to research this characteristic. It is across the board with both Intel and Nvidia and is NOT a function of the DRAM, rather it is a characteristic of the memory controller. The DRAM can still run at the full speed but the memory controller can NOT access the DRAM fast enough and will return errors because of this. Courtylad
Hi again Ramguy, Not too sure now as this forums getting a bit busier but if those comments last night were aimed at me.....volt 2.1,trc 28,etc etc...yeah ..they didnt work.First pass the pc loaded past the windows load bar which is not normal when bios settings are changed and then just sat there..mouse still working but no continuation of loading.Second pass same ole same ole.....BSOD on load up bar. Thanks again for you time and effort. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2007 There are 2 voltages linked to the memory controller that sometimes need to be raised when running over DDR800. I don't have the Striker bios handy but, try finding and raisng the SPP voltage and the SPP or FSB tracking or termination voltage. 1 bump up from stock is a good start. Courtylad
Well that made me turn white.I tried to do what you said. The pc made it past bios but as before just stopped loading after the windows load bar. After a few reboots the pc just started turning itself completely off.Freaked me out lol...as its only just over 1 week old.I have put everythig back to auto until maybe you get your hands on a striker board.I appreciate all your help.Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2007 Those voltages are safe so no worries there. I have used a Striker and also other 680i MOBOs. Based on your system, I would suggest that you strip it down somewhat so that you can eliminate some variables. Try using only the CPU, memory, HDs the OS will go on, and 1 video card. Disconnect all of the other components until you can get the system stable. Clear the bios, then enter setup defaults. After that, set the RAM voltage to 2.2v (or 2.1v if you have the rev 2.*) and manually set the timings to 5,5,5,18 and 2T command rate.
Courtylad
Just a thought......i have 1 stick in each of the blue slots...(1A - 1B)...i have seen others with both in the A channel (A1-A2 blue and white slots). Then i have seen boards with 2 sticks in the B channel (B1-B2 gain 1 blue,1 white).Any ideas as the correct installation for only 2 sticks. Then in bios post window as it states many things ..it says sli memory detected - then my setting at the moment is that its disabled.I didnt know this memory is sli? Is it?Cheers.
DerekT
I would insert in A1 and B1. Yes, that is SLi ready memory.
Metaphase
Hi all. I have exactly the same problem with the Striker Extreme and the Twin 1Gb Corsair 8500C5D memory. I have tried using all the timings and voltages that has been suggested in this forum but I still have a problem with getting my RAM running at 1066. For some strange reason the board and various benchmarking applications pick it up as running at 800MHz instead of 1066MHz. I am running the memory in UNLINKED mode at 1066. If I drop it down to 1065 the board detects it as running at 1000MHz. :s My memory timings are 5, 5, 5, 15 and tRAS at 28 and voltage is at 2.2v as its version 1.2 RAM. Ihave tried various different bios's on the board and am currently running 1305. One of my sticks of memory doesn't even work so I am going to have to RMA it but the system does run on the other. However, not as it should. Any suggestions would be appreciated! :)
richieb
Ok, here is how i fixed this issue: I went out today and bought 2gb Corsair 8500 ram dominator stuff Couldnt get it to work so had a poke about. In the BIOS for the striker extreme (which i have with a Q6600) there is an option for SLI memory. Enable it and put it on "Expert". I have the CPU and the memory "unlinked" in the tweaking section and this enabling automaitcally put it to 1066 and it boots beautifully now :0) The volts i have at 2.2v as that is what it said on the sticker on the ram stick. i have the timings at 5-5-5-15 and it scores 5.6 in vista memory rating. Hope this helps.

Vegga
We need a fixed thread with a final solution for striker extreme since asus forum is a joke. A lot of people is having problems with this board and this ram. And there are people happy with striker + corsair. My question I've set 533 to mhz speed to my ram and I have a q6600 @ stock, a ram working faster them the cpu brings no results for the system right ? Is possible to get 1066mhz with q6600 without overclocking it ? using 4-4-4-12 2t but going slow on windows. I'll try higher voltage. 2.2 or 2.3 is safe with this ram ? Vegga
What DRAM do you have? Corsair Dominator XMS2 DDR2 8500C5D Same as everybody here. i'll use this thread to put everything out. I almost cryed few seconds ago. in my memory I've set ram voltage 2.175V 5-5-5-15-2t trc 28, and had set 1066mhz fsb and 1066mhz ram. On my asus striker. But trying to get a even better result (this was the first time that my new computer q6600 + 2gb corsair dominator xms2 etc.. + geforce 8800 ultra it worked). Well seems it was not it. I've installed everest while it was working and was showing ram 5-5-5-18 (this is remember) and ddr2-800 ram. When I set 1066 and 800 it runs slow. 1066 533 (to link with q6600) it work a little better but still slow. So many variable, i'm trying this for 3 weeks now and still can't use my new computer. Today i've cryed :( I really, really need the final solution for this system. I'll be honest i'll never understand fsb and mhz speed on a ram. It's like a car running 100 km per hour and 150 km per hour at same time. All this dividers. Sell this motherboard and buy a new one I don't think will give me less headache or less tears. Having a middle computer will but I want performance. This is me and me knees begging for a solution that I belive there is at least 200 guys out there with Q6600 + Asus Striker + Corsair Dominator XMS2 DDR2 1066mhz 8500C5D. Please help us out can't stand this problems any more :(
