mehwoonkimchi
I have a 512mb xms 3200c2 stick right now in my computer, and i was wondering if i could put in a dual channel 2 sticks with my 512mb and work fine?
DerekT
What motherboard do you have? If it is a dual channel capable motherboard, I would then remove the single stick and install the dual channel twin sticks in banks 1 & 3. If you then install the third stick, you will lose dual channel mode. If it is not a dual channel capable motherboard, then insert all three sticks. mehwoonkimchi
i have an A7N8x2.0, i think it supports dual channel. Does that mean the ram will be slower?
DerekT
Well, with one stick you were not running in Dual Channel Mode. Now with two sticks you will have the added benefit of more DRAM and will run in Dual Channel Mode which can show some decent benefits. If you set the third stick in, you will have the added benefit of another 512MB of DRAM but will lose the Dual Channel Mode.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 6, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 6, 2007 It is also possible that the board will not run the 3 modules combined. If it does, it will most likely drop the CPU and memory controller speed to compensate for the extra load. Your best option is to purchase a 2gb kit of memory for your system and find another use for the single 512mb module. Please use the link to the Corsair Memory Configurator to find the best memory for that board.
