ama
Hi I bought and fitted a Corsair PC3200 chip (512Mb) to my IBM R40e laptop. It appears that I should have bought a PC2700 or PC2100 according the the machine spec. But I read on the internet that normally chips are backwards compatible. The system will boot OK but it reperts that the chip is only 256Mb not 512 Mb. I have tried cpu-z and it says that the chip is 512Mb but windows, the BIOS and memtest say its 256Mb. Should I just cut my loses and buy a slower chip (thats more expensive) or is there a work arround for this. Is a bios update worth a go ? Thanks A:confused:
DerekT
A BIOS update may fix this issue. With notebooks you need to check the memory configurator for compatibility. http://www.corsair.com/configurator/
