Issue w/ xms2 cm2x1024-6400c4

Hello,

New to forum but I have recently bought (@Newegg.com) the xms cmx2x1024-6400c4 twinpack and installed it my new system, replacing Corsair value ram modules of the same capacity. I ran cpu-z test to check on the performance of the system and on the "spd" tab results it showed one module as a cm2x1024-6400c4 w/ spd extension "EPP" and what appear to be normal readings under different voltages. The other module showed up as a "6400" w/ no "EPP" capabilities.

I reconfigured my system using one module at a time and found that running singly, one still shows as a "6400-c4" w/ "EPP" as it should but the other still only shows as a "6400" no ""EPP". So the issue appears to be isolated to the one module. Is this a defective/mislabeled module? The system does identify the 2 gig of dual channel RAM when both are installed.

Any light you can shed on this puzzle would be greatly appreciated.

PS

I am now experiencing sporadic lock-ups while in Vista surfing the www(requiring a hard shutdown) + as well as a lock-up during MemTest 1.71. This did not happen prior to replacing the memory.

Today, 11/4, PC locked up and wouldn't boot after hard shutdown. Replaced both of the xms RAM w/ my two original Value RAM modules, booted with no problems.

Your new memory requires 2.1v for stable operation. If you have not already, please raise the memory voltage to 2.1v. If you are still having issues please make sure that you have the latest bios for your MB and then load optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1v volts and then set the timings to (CAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) and then test the modules for 3-5 passes individually. With an ASUS MOBO, please disable Legacy USB Support while using Memtest, http://www.memtest.org

Thank you for your response. The volts were already set to 2.0 as close to 2.1 w/o going over. The bios was already the latest bios for my motherboard ver. 703 per the ASUS web site. Please note that the PC will not boot at all w/the xms2 modules installed so testing them is not an option.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS before testing? In some cases when changing or mixing memory, clearing the bios is necessary. Also, going slightly over 2.1v will not void your warranty as we allow a tolerance. So, make sure you have the bios set to 2.1v+.
