Asus Striker Extreme & Corsair Twin2x1024 (2x1 GB) BSOD

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday i get my new PC:

Mobo: Asus Striker Extreme

CPU: Intel Core Quad Q6600 2,4GHz

RAM: Corsair Twin2x1024 6400C4

PSU: Tagan 700W DualEngine

GFX: GeForce 8600GTS

OS: Vista 64bit Ultimate

I have some problems with my system. I have changed RAM settings in BIOS before installing Windows to 800MHz, 2.1V and 4-4-4-12 latency as recommended. Anyway, when installing Vista on this settings i got BSoD with Memory Management, IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL or BAD_POOL something errors. I have lowered then RAM's to 667 MHz and CL5 Latencies on 2.0V. I could install Vista but got more BSoD's with same error later using my PC. What should i do ? Should I change my mem's to other or update BIOS ? I have version 1204, its quite a new version so i don't thing that it is the problem. What exacly for settings should I use for my mobo to get it rock solid ? Thanks for any help.

/edit: I am currently running memtest86+ on my new PC. After 30 min, no errors.. i will come back after 2h and see if there are still no errors.

Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set SLI Ready Memory to CPU 0% and set the CPC/CR to 2T, then test with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them one up and or in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

Hi RAM GUY!

Thanks for your reply! I have updated my BIOS to the newest one (1305). Shoudn't I also change the Timings manually (CAS Latency and other things) ? I will test my memories over night today and will write down here tommorow about the results. Will my USB mouse and keybord work when disabling legacy USB ?

Hope that my PC will work! Thought if I buy some high-end stuff, I wouldn't have any problems with it.

/edit:

One more question, I would be very very happy if someone could write down exacly what settings I should choose in the BIOS. I don't want to overclock! I want it rock solid with no errors on my current speeds ;) thanks for any suggestions

I have selected only those options you said, SLi Ready Memory to CPUOC 0%, Memory Voltage to 2.100V and CPC (CMD) to 2 clock. But when I am running memtest i get much errors on first pass, after that my PC freeze, when i try to run Vista i get errors with winload.exe that is corrupted. When I have SLi Ready Memory Disabled, and manually set in timings to 4-4-4-12 and voltage everything works ok (so long). Am I doing something wrong ?

Ehm, modules works ok. No errors at all. 35 passes with no errors on memtest and work without errors in Vista since the BIOS update, when I set in manually timings to 4-4-4-12, CMD to 2 clock and voltage to 2.1V. Only when I set in settings you gave me with SLi Ready Memory on and things, then I get errors. I think that modules are ok on this settings i set up. Should i RMA them anyway ?

I like to set manually personally as I find many 650i/680i chipsets do far better with manual settings.

Hi!

On those manual settings i get 0 errors at 47 passes (during 18 hours) on memtest86+. I think that my modules are ok ;). Will test to install Vista again and hope that I don't se any blue screen again (I've seen them way too much :P).

What is that SLi Ready Memory function wich are crapping out my mems on the test ? Is it necessary ?

Thx for helping me out!

You don't need to test the DRAM that much. You are running it at full bore for 18 hours and this is not a good thing for the memory. Two full passes is enough. Four if you want to feel certain.

I find that manual settings are the best. SLi Memory is a method of entering the programmed SPD (Serial Presence Detect) chip on the DRAM with extended information in order to allow the motherboard to automatically read the data and insert the correct voltage, timings, etc. I find this to often be problematic and find manual far better. The SLi method works far better with AMD processors.

Ok, well the SLi Ready option if enabled is problematic for me, but anyway have everything set manual as you showed at post above. Keeping installing Vista now, hope it will work ok on those settings ;)

When i read about the memtest, few people advised me to run it over night. Is it really not good for mems even with good cooling to run it too much ? .. eh .. nevermind, I know it now :).

Hi all,

I've got a similar hardware setup to the OP (exactly the same mobo & ram), and have had almost identical problems running on Vista ultimate 32bit - random & frequent BSODs - often on startup & often (but not always) referring to IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL and BAD_POOL_HEADER etc - each time pointing to a different DLL / driver.

after much reading thru forums, updating drivers, reconfiguring, wailing, gnashing of teeth etc I found that 2 things appear to have dramatically improved the situation:

1) move the video card as far away from any other installed cards as possible - sounds strange but apparently this helps with IRQ conflicts.

2) (& this seemed to be the big fix) disable the onboard soundcard.

Happily I had a Creative Labs soundcard kicking around so fix 2 wasn't an inconvenience.

It's still too early for me to say with certainty that I've seen the last of the issue but I've gone from having a virtually unusable system to having a system that hasn't died on me for 48 hours now.

Hope this helps - it's got to be worth a try anyway....

Snowgoose.
