RamGuy,

TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX is listed on your site as compatible with the Asus P5E. (Vanilla X38 board) I already ordered a kit from Newegg but I wanted to ask about something odd in the Asus user manual. The user manual for the P5E states, "This motherboard does not support memory modules made up of 128Mb chips." Does this mean a 2GB memory stick made up of 16 128Mb chips will not work on my board? Or am I misunderstanding this, megabits instead of megabytes...? Please ease my mind that these sticks are going to work. Also, since the kit is speed rated at 1.8volts I should be able to run the board with everything set to "Auto", right?

Thanks,

Chad

I'm not RAM GUY but I think I can help assuage your worries. What ASUS documentation describes is that some generic DRAM manufacturers would use 32Mx8 chips (which are normally found on 128Mb and 256MB modules) and used them on 512MB modules. Now there's no risk of finding those on 4GB or 2GB DIMMS.

You will be fine.

Thanks for the reply DerekT. Now if I could just become brave and overclock my parts like you I would have a very fast machine.
