No QVL support for 4x TWIN2X 2048 6400C4

Hello!

I searched the forums, and it seems hard to tell if it works or not.

I already have 2gb of TWIN2X 6400C4 CL4 in my Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP P35 Socket-775.

Now i placed a order for 2gb more, for 4gb total of the same type.

When i now look in the manual, my MB doesn't seem to support 4 sticks of it.

Are there any other similar spec memory's i can buy? Or should i take my chances?

Using Vista 32 at the moment, but hoping to allocate 3.2gb atleast. Might go for 64 version later.

Hoping for a fast answer if i have to cancle my order :(:

Had you posted prior to purchasing I would personally advised you to sell the two sticks of 1024 and buy 2 sticks of 2048. You may have problems and you may not. It's a crap shoot when you populate all four dram banks. Your system should run with that DRAM but the motherboard is optimzed for 2 slots, not four, so that means you will very likely have to drop the bandwidth to allow the on motherboard memory controller (MCH Northbridge) to keep up with the now doubled DRAM length. For 800Mhz DRAM, you will very likely have to drop to 667Mhz.

With 2 X 2048 of 800Mhz DRAM, you will be able to run at 800Mhz. The issue is the motherboard memory controller not being able to keep up to the full speed of the DRAM now that the DRAM has been doubled.

You may be able, via overclock, to access a bit more of the bandwidth by overclocking the CPU FSB which then overclocks the Northbridge and allows a faster throughput which allows the DRAM to be increased somewhat.

Thank you for the fast answer.

The only 2g stick rams my vendor has to offer, are the

Corsair XMS2-6400 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G 5-5-5-18 Xtreme 2x2048MB (tot. 4GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz with Heatsink

These however have slower timings, from c4 -> c5.

Should i go for these, and be able to run 800mhz, or have the lower timed mems and run 667?

Im guessing the timing affects my system less?

You will be able to tighten the timings and very likely clock them up a bit as well. Even so, 667Mhz with 4 DRAM banks at 4-4-4-12 will certainly be slower than 800Mhz with 5-5-5-18.

When you have these DRAM, post in the Enthusiast section and I will show you how to increase both CPU speed and DRAM throughput if you wish. Entirely safe I guarantee. :)
