IPKonfig_0629
Hi guys, I'm not as well versed on hardware as I should be, but I'm a Network guy, what can I say :) Anyways, I successfully built an SN27P from Shuttle about a year and a half ago and all was working properly. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, and 2 GBs of XM2 Dual Channel RAM latency 5-5-5-12, both rated at PC6400. I run a LOT of VMs, and with the addition of Windows Server 2008 I figured it was time to bump my RAM up to the max for the board, which appears to be 4 GB (all the docs says its 8 GB total, but there are four slots). At any rate, I bought the exact same RAM with one difference, the new RAM runs at PC6400 speed with a latency of 4-4-4-12 (its marked with a C4 marking). I put both in their proper channels (all four channels are color coded white and red, so I put the new ones in the white and old ones were already in the red.) I turned on the machine and nothing, no video, nothing. It seems as if the fans are working extra hard, but I get no video. I turn it off, take out the new RAM and voila, it boots. I put in just the new RAM and voila, it also works. I put in the 2 old RAM DIMMs, and the 1 new one, and it boots, but when I get into Windows and check the amount of RAM thats being seen, it reads 2 GBs still. Same goes for 2 old and one new. It just wont see more than 2. The board is rated for 800 Mhz, so I am lost, please help!

IPKonfig_0629
both of the 5-5-5-12s are cm2x1024-6400 and the 4-4-4-12s are cm2x1024-6400c4.
DerekT
It's always a crap shoot when mixing and matching DRAM. Sometimes it works, often times it will not. I always advise identical DRAM with modules that contain the same SPD. You can try to manually set the timings and see if that helps. Install the set of 5-5-5-12 sticks in banks 1 & 3. Enter BIOS and set the timings to 5-5-5-12 with a command rate of 2T. Set your DRAM voltage (Vdimm) to 2.7V. Set the bandwidth to 333Mhz rather than 400Mhz. Shut the system down. Install the second set (C4). Restart. Results?

If so: Good to hear that you are one of the lucky ones. You're very welcome. :D:
