Disturbed one
I'm looking at building another computer here and was looking at using Asus M2R32-MVP motherboard. The mobo is crossfire ready and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what memory is going to work the best with it. I've been a fan of the XMS seriers for some time myself and would like to stick with Corsair if possible. From reading reviews the Dominator series looks like it's very popular and people have had good experience with it... the only thing that gets me is I'd be using a crossfire mobo chipset along with sli ready ram. I'd assume the ram would work normally there but would it cause any troubles for overclocking or stability if I was able to bump up the speed?? I've been looking and cannot find the answer to if SLI cert memory will work just fine with a Crossfire mobo. Does anyone know if it's possible without causing issues? Yellowbeard
The memory will work fine with a Crossfire certified MOBO. Currently, Nvidia's SLI Ready memory does contain extra OCing profiles in the SPD in addition to the standard SPD information. Your Crossfire ready board will simply ignore this extra information and use the standard SPD info. If you need to OC, then you will simply do it manually in the bios. So if I'm understanding what your reply; The basic concept if I'm reading correctly is the extra profiles in the SPD would bascially automatically OC the memory? I would be able to use the memory but I'd have to just Manually OC vs it already being done? I would get the same performance out of the memory wether or not it was SLI or Crossfire ready correct? And a crossfire/sli cert mobo would be one that does the Crossfire/sli graphics cards then? I'm trying to learn as much as I can and appreciate the feedback. Nvidia certified will run a single ATI card but not 2 in Crossfire. Crossfire certified will run a single Nvidia card but not 2 cards in SLI. You hit the nail on the head with the memory also. No MOBO will inherently clock better using automatic profiles as opposed to OCing manually. The presets simply take some of the guesswork out for those that don't want to manually tweak their systems. So far, Nvidia is the only one of the 2 with advance OCing profiles (EPP or Enhanced Performance Profiles). ATI does not (yet) have a counterpart. Intel is coming out with one soon called XMP or Extreme Memory Performance.
