DeMesDeux
Hello I have a brand new computer who refuse to POST. First excuse me of grammaticals errors , english is not my primary language. Here an short description of the computer Asus P5K rev. 1.02G ( P5K Vanilla ) E6850 Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 , (1732528 07400930) Board is new and SHOULD have an BIOS revision which support the E6850. Being unable to POST , I am unable to confirm this. I have a lot of experience assembling computers and always do quality work. In minimal configuration ( just using an vga and keyboard ) when I power-up the system the CPU fans run 3 seconds, stop 3 sec and power up again for 3 sec and again stop ....... Cleared CMOS ( jumper with battery removed ) Tried with 1 stick in differents slots , same result. Cleared CMOS each time. Do not have presently an different DDR2 module to check if it would post with an different stick. I read somewhere in this forum a statement by the support staff that even if this ram work at 2.1V it should POST at 1.8. Will try to get some different ram tomorrow to test but meanwhile I am getting late on this job. Would appreciate some advice. Regards
DerekT
With these modules you will need to adjust the memory voltage in the BIOS manually. This could well be the issue, and can be tested with another stick. Install the stick, enter the BIOS and set the DRAM memory voltage to 2.1 volts. Are you able to test the DRAM in another board? The DRAM must be tested to see if it works. Failing that, you must test the board with a vanilla stick of DRAM to isolate the issue being board, dram or BIOS revision incapable of recognising the 333Mhz FSB and unable to set to the strap. If the BIOS is the first version, then there is no recognition of the 333Mhz strap and would need to be flashed to a version that does recognize the CPU and strap. I know you say that you have no other DRAM stick but you will need one to test and isolate the issue. Requesting an RMA will not change the event unless it is the DRAM that is bad and you need to find this out.
DeMesDeux
Hello again. First , thank you for the fast reply, this is appreciated. I tried this morning with an good quality generic PC5400 and got the same problem as before. So I can narrow the problem to an bios which do not support the 333 strap If I had an previous model of cpu in stock I would have been able to get the computer to POST and so been able to flash the latest bios. ( at this time the rev. 603 bios ) but it is not the case. The last part is a bit of guesswork, which could be erroneous. I remember that the motherboard box had some dust on it so I could assume that it stayed on the shelf a bit. The compatibility chart on the Asus web site tell me that the P5K support the 333Mhz strap at the bios rev 603 which was avalaible in July 2007. I am assuming this is caused by an bios issue When I will have an replacement motherboard, I will use the same cpu & ram and keep this thread updated. DeMesDeux
Hello Sorry for being for late to update this thread. Had a lot of work. Thank you DerekT , your procedure was perfect to resolve this problem. But I used an different path to resolve my problem. The problem was the motherboard's BIOS, the BIOS revision of the P5K ( vanilla) did not support the new D0 cpu. ( E6850 ) I had my doubt about the vendor's inventory so I replaced the Asus P5K with an Asus P5K-E/Wifi which was just received. No more POST problem. Currently I am running this ram at 200Mhz 4-4-4-15 at 2.00V without any problem. So in conclusion Asus P5K-E/Wifi plus an E6850 and some Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 get you some very nice platform. I am very satisfied with this memory Regards

dlpatters
I am having the same problem but I already have the p5K deluxe with updated bios and am using the dominator 8500 ram sticks. I dont understand why there is so much incompatibility with these sticks what is going on?
