TobiasArnell Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Hello, I am currently using two sets off twinx2048-6400c4. I have used this for about a month without any problems, today i started to think about overclocking some(hopefully crysis is released tomorrow and u want the best possible performance! :)) When i run memtest with memory at 850mhz speed and 4/4/4/12timings i got 7-8 errors/run and i thought that probebly the 4x sticks is to much for this and i lowered them back to 667mhz (since i havent had problem with this normally). Now it shows that i get errors even at this low speed. Since i havent tested each stick by itself and since it takes time i dont wanna spend (not to talk about rma..) im wondering if 2 errors/run is acceptable? i havent noticed problems before. btw the failing adress in memtest is always the same, it seems, and it gets "count 2" after a successfull pass. *edit* its two twinx2048 not 1024..and i just now got through a full pass in memtest but with three errors not two as the other times, but they are still at the exact same adress. My setup is: asus p5b deluxe c2d6600 asus 8800 gtx 2x corsair twinx2048-6400c4 620w corsair psu
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 25, 2007 Corsair Employee Posted October 25, 2007 Set them at 800 MHz and see if it will pass, but with 4 modules on this MB DDR667 would be suggested.
TobiasArnell Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 I have been running memtest for a few hours with different settings, it seems i always get like 3 errors/pass, i did a 800 mhz run as well and same stuff happening, as i previously asked, does 3 errors in 1 run mean im gonna have problems playing games and such?..im not really in the mood of swapping memory and wait for new :)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 25, 2007 Corsair Employee Posted October 25, 2007 Maybe, what test are you getting errors on? And I would set the NB/MCH Chipset Voltage +.05 Volts
TobiasArnell Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 all errors occours in test 6, 1 error happens early each test pass and 2 others comes later on, im not sure how memtest works but does it test 1 stick at a time? if so, it seems i get one error from one memory and two error from another one, ofcourse im only guessing. About the NB its on auto atm, i can choose to put it on 1,25 1,45, 1,55 1,65, i dont know whats the default value here.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 25, 2007 Corsair Employee Posted October 25, 2007 I would recommend testing each module individually, if multiple modules are giving you the same error, there is probably some other issue. However if you only get errors with one module, then we will need to get the set replaced.
TobiasArnell Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 Now i have tryed to run each memory once in memtest and no errors, i then put back all 4 sticks and they passed first run without errors, but in the second run at test 4 i got another error. I know one run on each stick is to little to be sure but i just dont have the time right now. Also i wondered about the NB vcore setting, as i wrote a post back i have only a few choices and i dont know witch one is the default one. Thanks for your help! :)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 25, 2007 Corsair Employee Posted October 25, 2007 I would try running test 4 only (hit Esc in memtest to select the test individually) with the NBvcore at 1.45, and then bump it to 1.55 if you still get errors.
TobiasArnell Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 I now think i have pinned the problem down, i have done runs on each memory module and it seems one is given errors but not as much alone as with other modules. When i used all four at the same time i get most often 1 error per run, when i runned it alone i got 1 error on 20 runs. Can it be so that you can get more errors when running all four then if u run the faulty stick by itself? Ill now run the three sticks i think is ok over night and see if they are given any errors.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 26, 2007 Corsair Employee Posted October 26, 2007 If the other 3 modules pass memtest, then let's get them or it replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or “Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it, please note that you are posting from the forum!
TobiasArnell Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 The three moduls i run overnight passed 25 whole tests without errors so i guess i found the faulty one, ill rma it then! thanks alot for helping!! /tobias
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2007 Corsair Employee Posted October 29, 2007 NP Please let us know how you make out when you get them all replaced.
