GT Survivor and USB Ports

Hi, I have a GT Survivor, 8 gig, that I purchased from Newegg about a month ago. I am finding sporatic USB support on a Dell 4700 running Windows XP Home. I do not have this problem with my 4 Gig Flash Voyager that is about a year old - it works flawlessly on the Dell 4700.

The problem: About 3/4 of the time when I plug my GT Survivor into the USB ports (I've tried the 2 on front, 2 on back and 2 on monitor) my GT drive is not recognized in my computer. When looking at the device manager, all of the USB ports show they will supply 500 ma power and that there is no problem with any of the USB ports. About half of the time after I run checkdisk and reboot the computer the GT Survivor will be recognized, half the time not.

Any suggestions on what I can try to fix this so the GT Survivor will be recognized all the time?

Thanks, DE Retiree

The Dell systems from what I have seen have had issues suppling enough power to the USB ports. I would try the drive in another system and do not use the front ports and or try it with an externally powered USB HUB to make sure its not some other issue. However I have no problem replacing the drive if you like, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it.
