ReelMcCoy
I've got a GA-P35-DQ6 currently with 4 1GB sticks of competitor memory I originally bought figuring I could run at the 1066 speeds of the RAM with all four sticks. And for the first month, the system was rocking at those speeds until something wigged out and I had to drop down to 800. For the most part, the system has been running well but some crazy BSOD later, I found the memory timings I had specified were mysteriously reset causing the system to constantly reboot. I've recovered from that but now I'm on a quest to replace this memory with 2 2GB sticks and come back to a brand I've used in just about every system I've built in the past 5 years. Is there any difference other than heatspreaders between the TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX and TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G? Will it be as simple as installing the memory and not having the tweak any memory timings and/or DDR voltages (once I get things set back to AUTO of course)? Which of the two would be more recommended? I don't overclock but I do live in a warmer climate and my cases have ample air flow. Thanks, Dan
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2007 Yes either set will run great just load setup defaults and I would set the memory Voltage to +.01 Volts and you should be good to go with either set they are the same just different package. ReelMcCoy
Thanks for the response. I'll give one of them a whirl.

ReelMcCoy
Ok. Another question. I finally bit the bullet and couldn't pass up buying 2 sets of the TWIN2X4096 with the Dominator style heat spreaders. The current prices are just too hard to beat! And I have plans of virtualizing development environments and whatnot so 8GB of RAM will do quite nicely. :) Are there any recommendations on BIOS settings such as possibly increasing the DDR voltage a tad? I know 4 sticks of memory puts a load on the memory controller and I am currently running 4 sticks of 1GB RAM (800MHz vs 1066). I'm hoping I can get away with still running at 800MHz but know I may need to drop down to 667. I think I've done enough damage to my pocket book already this year. :D (Edited - Spelling errors fixed)
ReelMcCoy
Whoops. I had to change the order to 2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G kits instead as I figured the DHX heat spreader would be a tight fit with the heatsink I have on the Q6600. Given they're they same outside of the heat spreader, any recommendations would likely be the same. I still can't believe the prices...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 3, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 3, 2008 With 4 modules its hit and miss but they should run with out to much tweaking, I would set the memory Voltage to 1.9-2.0 Volts (+.01 to +.2 Volts) and I would set the NB/MCH Voltage to +.05 Volts as well and then test the system with http://www.memtest.org to be sure its stable at worst you would have to set the memory frequency at DDR667. ReelMcCoy
Figured I'd post a follow-up message. I received the 4 sticks, installed and didn't change a thing from defaults. DDR voltage is sitting at 1.89V. MemTest86+ ran for 23 hours without issue. Absolutely spiffy so far! Thanks for the support!
