anubisrich
Might remember me, I posted a while ago. Memory problems never really went away, I'm just massively busy at work and dont have time to sort it out! I decided to spend today sorting it out before the rugby and basically ran memtest on both individual pairs for ages. Both no errors, many passes. Run in dual channel and...loads of errors on the first pass. No idea what the problem is, browsing the internet suggests CPU bus timing issues, I should try switching from T1 to T2. But is there anything else that could cause this?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2007 Can you tell me the part number of the modules you have? Also, our DDR2 modules are all tested at 2T Command Rate. I would recommend setting it to 2T when testing the memory.
anubisrich
The parts are CM2X1024-6400, 5-5-5-12 800MHz. XMS6405v5.1. I'm not sure if I've even set it to 2T now, I've set the DRAM Timing to Configuration 2. Still no errors in single channel but dual channel had one error 1 pass in, good but not the one. There's nothing else in the BIOS that has two options, I've got a Gigabyte DS3. My computer has blue screened on the single ram stick but there are no errors on memtest. In general it's much more stable than the two sticks though.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2007 I would recommend increasing the memory voltage by +.2 volts in the BIOS. You may also want to try testing using both modules in the system in single channel mode and see if you get any errors.
anubisrich
Yeah I've increased the voltage as before. In single channel there are no errors. Only in dual channel are there errors.
Wired
Generally that means it's the memory controller, or possibly a bad slot.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 23, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 23, 2007 If possible you might want to test the modules in a different system.
anubisrich
Unfortunately I've only got a laptop which wont work. Is there anything I can do to fix the memory controller...aside from buying a new mobo? At the moment I'm only using the memory in the yellow slots as they look like the...primary (?) ones. I'll try them both in the red and see what memtest says.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 23, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 23, 2007 Try the modules in the other two slots and for sure make sure that you have the latest BIOS and load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to +.2 Volts and set the tested settings manually. anubisrich
OK, BIOS and all that is updated. Memtest in the red slots gave an error on the first pass, +.2V and left memtest on overnight (20 passes) and no errors so hopefully it's ok. Will see if I get any blue screens over the next couple of days. If it's a bad slot on the mobo should I just get a new one?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 24, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 24, 2007 If it's a bad slot on the mobo should I just get a new one? I would contact the motherboard manufacturer and see what they recommend!
anubisrich
No problems or blue screens so far so looks good! Must be a motherboard issue but i will just upgrade that when i want 4 gigs of ram.
