Chris-G-
I have been building my own systems for a few years and never had any problems, until now! I decided to upgrade my system from - Core 2 Duo E6600 4GB Corsair XMS2-6400 Ram Gigabyte 965P DS3 Seasonic 500w PSU 2 * 500 GB Hitachi Deskstar HDD Asus GeForce 7900 GT 256MB Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Antec P180 changing the graphics card from the 7900gt to the 8800GTX from Asus, after reading some posts about power concerns with the 8800GTX I decided to upgrade to the HX620W. All went well, the modular cables made install easy and alot tidier than with my old seasonic the system started fine and is very stable (running with the 7900gt). The problems started when I swapped the graphics cards over to the 8800GTX, after connecting both pci-e connectors from the PSU and checking all the connectors were in place and well seated, I powered up only to recieve a high pitch tone coming from the graphics card. From reading other forums this is apparently related to a lack of power, however from the tech specs for the 8800GTX the 620W is more than adequate to power the card in both terms of wattage and also amps. (the 8800gtx requires a min. of 450w and 28A) I have a feeling there is a problem with the 8800GTX but all I get from the tech guys is that the problem is the power supply. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2007 The HX620 is definitely powerful enough to power your system. Make sure that all the cables are plugged in all the way in to the PSU and the Video Card. If possible, I would test the video card on a different system to see if you still have the same issues. DerekT
I run an 8800GTX 620/2000, WD Raptor, 2 X 750 Watt Seagates, and there has been no issue whatsoever. This power supply is simply so powerful that it doesn't even emit much temperature unless I game for hours. Not one issue from day 1. Install your 500 Watt PSU and test the Card with that one. If it works with the 500 Watt PSU, then I would look to RMA of the Power Supply.
Chris-G-
thanks for your replys, RAM GUY Unfortunately I dont have a system that I can check the card on. However I feel the problem is the card as my system has been stable since I installed the HX 620W. DerekT I have tried the 500W psu to power the 8800 gtx alone with no other drain and I still get the tone. All in all I think the card is the problem arranged for it to be sent back in the morning, hope their tech guys agree with me!! Thanks for your help will post an update when I get the results
