SoloTwo
Ok all my pc info is in my profile. Anywhoo, I recently purchased my pc from IBuyPower with the following memory... CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) And earlier in the week I ordered the same thing from newegg to make for a total of 4gb's. When I got it today I popped them in and all I get is the beep tone when I turn it on, which is on for a few seconds, goes off, comes back on, annoyingly. I opened the case back up, checked them, same deal. Took the two new ones out, and it starts fine. When I was installing, I had taken out all of the sticks to make sure they were the same. Same model numbers, BUT I noticed the revisions where different. Something I had never heard of before. ;) My motherboard is a Nvidia nForce 680i sli, and the memory is compatiable. So basically I'm wondering IF the different revision's would cause the pc not to boot up or if there's another possible problem. If its believe to just be the revisions I'll order another set from new egg and do something with the old ones, lol. Btw I'm running windows XP 32bit. Thank in advance, I really appreciate it. Wired
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) That's vague. What's the part # / version # of each pair? How To Read the Memory Label Also, "EVGA nForce 680i SLI SPP" isn't listed on EVGA's website. What's after SLI in the motherboard name? What are you using the system for? In most applications in XP 32 bit, 4 GB is overkill.

In most applications in XP 32 bit, 4 GB is overkill. Part number for both sets is CM2X1024-6400 Version number for the pair thats in the pc is 5.1 ver I just purchased is 5.2. :[pouts: As for the board, when I bought it all it says is eVGA NForce 680i SLI, CPU-Z says nForce 680i SLI SPP as the chipset, and 680i SLI MCP as the southbridge. Model is 122-CK-NF68. I bought another 2gb's because, well I like overkill. Currently pc is mainly for heavy duty gaming, and today I just started using a dual monitor setup. And eventually, since some of the games I currently use don't get along well with Vista, I will be upgrading to Vista down the road, so I figured I might as well upgrade to 4gb's while I'm at it. Edit: Official motherboard version is EVGA nForce 680i SLI 775 A1 Version
DerekT
Let's try manual settings. Install 1 set of sticks being v5.2. SoloTwo
Ok well I did all that, well most of them that I could find, the only ones I couldn't find where the CPU spread spectrum and all those ones below it except for the voltages. No dice, well almost. When I restarted after installing them AGAIN it booted, abit, extremely slowly. Then since I hadn't plugged in everything like my 2nd monitor I restarted, AND she wouldn't boot. She'd get stuck on the opening bios screen, which shows the cpu info and memory, which is showing 4gig's. But only half the page would show up and it would then freeze. Basically would ordering ones of the same revision make it work? Because I'll just do that then only 79 bucks + rebate. Only if you guys think it will work then. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2007 Try changing the tRC setting to 28, and lower the memory frequency to 667MHz, then see if the system is stable.

nuklehed
Try changing the tRC setting to 28, and lower the memory frequency to 667MHz, then see if the system is stable. These settings finally allowed my PC to to boot after installing 4GB of memory. I have the same mobo and had to default my memory settings first, then I went into "Expert" mode and change the tRC. Then I unlinked and cranked the memory down to 667. What CPU/Memory voltage settings do you recommend? Right now, I am at in System Voltages (the rest are set to Auto): - CPU Core: 1.35 - Memory: 2.2 - nForce SPP: 1.35 Cranking the memory down means I'm losing out on peak performance. Is that a limitation of the mobo or the memory when 4 sticks are installed? Thanks again, my machine seems to be quite stable!
Wired
memory controller limitation, which is on the CPU or motherboard, depending on if it's Intel or AMD.
