8GB Flash Voyager Not Recognized

I have a new 8GB Flash Voyager. It is recognised in some computers but not in others. All computers are running Vista. The error message is as follows:

USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it. For assistence in solving this problem click this message.

When I click the message I am taken to Device Magager where Unknown Device is shown in bold type under USB Root Hub.

Occassionally when I try another USB port the device is recogised but this does not happen very often. Mostly it is not recognised in one computer but recognised in another.

Any help would be appreciated

Edit then advanced and you can change the title.

And I would remove the listing in device manager and then restart the system with it installed and see if Windows sees it. If not you will have to update the driver manually and then see the file name it's looking for and search for it then point it to the folder it finds it in and you have to logged in as an administrator.

Hi, thanks for that - I am new to forums and their mechanics.

I did what you suggested, deleted the decice and rebooted with the flash drive in a USB port. All good and the device showed up and worked well. I then removed the drive and reattached it to a different USB port and got the same error message.

I then tried a different computer and after I attached the drive it was recognised immediately but after 4 or 5 seconds the same error message popped up.

Most confusing

I then take it out and immediately put it back in again and it works perfectly.

I repeat this again but in a different port and at first it is recognised but after a short pause the drive dissappears off the screen and I get the same error message.

Maybe the solution is to send the drive back to Corsair?

OK I have now seen link to TSXpress. All these abbreviations are a litle daunting!

I have a few other thumb drives and they all work perfectly and I have never had a problem. My new 8GB Corsair flash drive also perforned perfectly at first so I presume that I have done something wrong. When the problem first occurred I tried reformatting the drive and for some reason I reformatted as NTFS. When the problem continued someone told me that NTFS cannot be used on flash drives so I reformatted again as FAT. Same problem.

If you can tell me if I am missing the point somewhere along the line then I would be most grateful.

Its hard to say and almost impossible to say anything would be your fault and for sure I would not do that. Let's just get it replaced and see how it goes. But most likely it is not your fault just that drive is failing and we need to replace it.

Sorry but the problem has returned to haunt me again. The new Voyager worked well for a time but then reverted to it's former nonsense. Firstly none of my 3 computers would be able to read the Voyager and then I would be asked to format the drive. I did this but it only formatted 4 gb (3.87 actually). After formating the drive was still not readable? What do I do now? The cost of sending to USA is almost the same as the cost of a new drive? I must say that I have 2 other Flash drives (different manufacturer) and they have never given me a moments trouble. Unless you can suggest a simple solution I think the easiest way out is to bin it?

What do you think.

Cheers

On my 2 PC's I am seing the front usb Ports. On my laptop (Asus F3SV) I have tried both the front and back USB ports. It is plugged in at the back right now and it shows up in My Computer as Removable disk G (empty) but the drive is actually labelled Des Thumb and has about 3 GB of files on it. I am busy trying to load some photos on the drive to take to have printed at a print shop but can not get access to the drive. Very frustrating. I am getting to the point of scrapping this drive. My other 2 drives (Astone) are only 2Gb that is why I bought the bigger drive. I shall try formatting the drive again and see what happens. Thanks for your interest.

I reformatted the drive and it seems a little better. In that I mean I now am able to write to/from drive but I still seem to have a problem with i.e. when I leave the drive in the USB port (laptop) and shut down, when I reboot the laptop hangs until I revove the drive, then it boots up.

I will persist with it some more and see what develops. Maybe it will settle down now?

Hi

Thanks for your help but I am now going to give up.

The drive worked for a while then started up with it's nonesence again. I appreciate the tip regarding using a powered usb hub but that defeats the purpose of a flash drive? Now when I connect it to my laptop, the laptop hangs and even when I reboot with the flash drive attached to the laptop it will not reboot. I have to remove the flash drive to enable the laptop to reboot.

Thank for your offer to replace the drive but the last time I sent it back to Corsair it cost me AUD30 and to pay another AUD30 to get another replacement is just not worth it to me especially as I expect to have to same problems repeated. I suspect that Corsair has a problem with the 8 gb model and reading all the posts about the drive and all the various problems such as the computer only recognising the 8Gb drive as 4 Gb (I also experienced this) along with all the time I have spent on this one item I have decided to call it quits and have tossed the drive in the bin.

Sorry to say this but I shall not be purchasing another Corsair product.

Thanks for all your help. I understand you do not make these problems happen and do your best to overcome them. I just feel I have had enough.

Best regards

Desmond
