Hello,

I was thinking about upgrading the cpu on my motherboard. I currently have an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (Palomino Core) with one Corsair CMX512-3200C2 DDR DIMM.

Any recommendations are welcome.

Is it worth spending the extra cash on a Barton Core cpu?

How about the FSB? Can I run a 200MHz FSB with this board and memory?

Thank you!

Your Motherboard will allow you a Barton 3200+ and Dual Channel DRAM. Only the Deluxe allowed for Dual Channel.

Personally I would not spend any money on that system. I would just run it to the ground and save that money for the next computer you buy. There is a differential in speed with the 2100+ vs the 3200+ but then you have bought a 3200+ and have a 2100+ and they are both old tech processors.

My advice is to save your money.

Vanilla A7N8X does dual channel just fine.

Other than that I must agree, not worth it to upgrade cpu. Buy a new system, I did back in march when I went from A7N8X-E Deluxe mobile 2500+ gf6800gt and 1GB 3200 Ram to my current system (see my specs) and that was a MASSIVE jump in performance. Never looked back other than in anguish over how long I stayed on the old system, didnt know what I was missing out on until I got my new system ;)
