pregier
We upgraded an old Dell Precision 450 this summer by replacing its RAM with 2x VS1GB400C3, and all was well (running at PC2100 speeds, of course) until the system suddenly failed to POST a couple months later. I isolated the module at fault (the other worked fine), and returned both, just to make sure we ended up with a matching pair. Now that I have the replacement modules, neither works in any Precision 450 that I've tried yet. Both appear to work fine in a P4 (Optiplex 170L, based on Intel 865) system. What changed between the original pair of DIMMs and the replacements?

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2007 The old modules were probably a cas 2.5 part, the newer "C3" part will only have SPD settings for DDR333 and DDR400. I would suggest using the memory that was listed for that system on our memory configurator.

pregier
Ah, OK; thanks. We've gone ahead and ordered PQI replacements, since the memory configurator indicates there is no suitable Corsair 1GB module.
