Darkwave
Hi, I've bought a new PC but I've a problem with RAM (I think). I've Vista 32 bit and sometimes I've blue screen. The problem shoul9 d be something in regard to RAM settings in BIOS. I've Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard updated to bios version 0608 and I've a e6850 cpu (so FSB=1333). I've all Bios at standard (I don't wanna OC) and I've setting up my memory settings as: 5-5-5-12-2T (tCL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-CMD) and all other to auto. Moreover I've set DDR2 SDRAM Voltage at 1.9V (also I've tried 2.013V but nothing changed) FSB is 1333MHz but I've set UNLINKED so it's no related to RAM frequency that is set to 800MHz. Can you help me please? I've read the code on my RAM and it's reported: CM2X1024-6400 XMS6405v5.1 5-5-5-12 In all other thread I've found only problems about PC6400C5, moreover the code on my ram trouble me (is that what is referred to Twin2X1024A-6400 on the http://www.corsairmemory.com?) Thanks in advice

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 18, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 18, 2007 Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.0 volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

Darkwave
But are the timing I've posted correct? Moreover I live in Italy, so if they're fault have I to ship them to you in the US or is a nearer location? Thanks PS: what is SPD?

DerekT
Your timings are correct. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:UamqbBeeTn4J:www.corsairmemory.com/_datasheets/CM2X1024-6400.pdf+CM2X1024-6400&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=ca SPD is "Serial Presence Detect" and is programmed on the DRAM module to inform the system what the correct settings are. Please do what RAMGUY suggested.

Darkwave
Another things. In a lot of other post I've seen that some people reach stability on Cas4 memory with setting also tRC = 22 tWTR = 15 For my C5 memory are theese setting the same? In that case I can use the normal settings that are: 5-5-5-12-2T and also Trc=22 and Twtr=15 or have I to set other things? For memory Voltage I'll use the first 2V setting (2.013V if I remember right). So in my MotherBoard are reported the following timing (I write how I have and how I try to set them in bracket if you answer yes to my previous answer): Memory Voltage:1.92022V (2.013V) (can choose also 2.085V, 2.178V, 2.259V, 2.353V, 2.424V and 2.517V) NB Core Voltage: Auto (can choose 1.208, 1.393V, 1.563V, 1.748V) VCore Offset Voltage: Auto (can choose +100mV) FSB - Memory Clock Mode: Unlinked FSB (QDR) MHz: 1333 MEM (DDR) MHz: 800 tCL (CAS Latency): 5 tRCD(RAS-toCAS delay Timing): 5 tRP(Row-Precharge Delay):5 tRAS(Row-Active Delay):12 CMD:2 tRRD(RAS-to-RAS delay timing)= Auto tRC(row cycle timing)= Auto (22) tWR(WR delay timing)=Auto tWTR(WTR delay)=Auto (15) tREF(Ref delay timing)=Auto tRD(RD delay timing)=Auto tRFC(RFC delay timing)=Auto Async Latency= Auto In this week end I have some time to make some try. The problem is that I've more or less only 1 BSOD a day, not a lot of but I would like to resolve it. After the week end I'll report what's happened. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2007 Those settings are not specified by us, I would just leave them at AUTO, and you can get the tested settings from the link in my signature. And you can check the BSOD Stop error code number at http://www.microsoft.com/technet. In addition, I would make sure the Command Rate is set to 2t Mnaully as that would cause this symptom as well. Darkwave
The params you list in sign are: Testing parameters for Twinx/XMS2-6400: Twin2x1024A-6400 Data Sheet Twin2x2048-6400 Data Sheet CPU External Frequency: Manually set to 200MHz DDR2 SDRAM Clock: Manually set to 800MHz PCI Express Freq: Auto PCI Freq: 33.33 Performance Mode: Standard DRAM Timing Selectable: Manual SDRAM CAS Latency: 5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 5T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 12T SDRAM Write Recovery Time: 5 Write to Precharge Delay: 15 (If it's Listed) Command Rate: 2T DDR2 SDRAM Voltage: 1.9 Advanced voltage control CPU Vcore offset:_Disabled DDR2 Termination: 0.5x CPU to NB HT:____1.200V NB to SB HT:_____AUTO NB Core/PCI-E:___AUTO SB Core/PCI-E:___AUTO SB Standby core:_+1.500V Output driver control CKE:______AUTO CS/ODT:__1.00X ADD/CMD:_1.00X MEMCLK:__1.00X All other settings are motherboard defaults. Maximum DDR2 recommended VDIMM: 2.1 Volts The problem is that someone is not listed I think: Write to Precharge Delay: 15 (If it's Listed) or is tWTR? And also my FSB = 1333 cause I've an e6850 so also CPU External Frequency: Manually set to 200MHz is not valid in my set up. Moreover I've done a report with CPU-Z and here it is (with the damped registers). I've seen that on it the ram module at 400MHz are set up as 5-5-5-18, not 12.. I'll try also this. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2007 The problem is that someone is not listed I think: Write to Precharge Delay: 15 (If it's Listed) or is tWTR? Your MB will not have the setting Write to Precharge Delay that will only be on Intel Chipset MB's. And also my FSB = 1333 cause I've an e6850 so also CPU External Frequency: Manually set to 200MHz is not valid in my set up. The settings are provided based on how we test the modules, if you are using adifferent system configuration then of course it will not match and those changes will be determined by the system configuration you have. Not by us! However the memory portion of the settings will or should be the same with a few exceptions, IE: 4 modules or a slower CPU speed for example. And again that would be up to the user to determine! Moreover I've done a report with CPU-Z and here it is (with the damped registers). I've seen that on it the ram module at 400MHz are set up as 5-5-5-18, not 12.. I'll try also this. That is correct the tested settings would need to be manually set as specified in XMS Qualification and Testing

Darkwave
Ok I've done some test and.. I think the RAM is not the problem.. I mean I can pass MEMTEST all time I want with the 2 DIMM inserted together. The problem still exist in my configuration and is that only the first time a day I use my pc in the first 10-15 min I've a BSOD. The code of error is something like STOP 0x7f (0x08,..) but I don't understand what can be.. It could be the motherboard or CPU also but it's very strange that I've it only once a day and.. I don't know how to test MB and CPU. I try to use something like Orthos or Superpi that I've read about in a lot of forum. I think that memory are ok now with only the settings 5-5-5-12-2T and with Vram =2.085 (all other is on auto). I've also updated my motherboard FW to the last (0703) but with no improvement. Thanks for help and if you've suggestion (or other people with my problem that tell you how have resolved make it know). Best Regars
DerekT
I would perform a fresh install of the OS. This will remove the possibility of the software being the issue and remove it as a variable in the trouble-shoot. Be sure to format the partition/drive as well.
