Fyrex
Alright I ordered the parts for my new computer and built it and everything started running fine. I had a problem where the CPU was overheating, but I fixed that and set the memory to the proper voltage. After that things seemed to be running great, no lag, I could play games for a long time without crashes. Randomly it would blue screen, but not often. I'm trying to find a solution to the problem but no luck so far, like just now I was playing TF2 I got a blue screen, I restarted my computer and it wouldnt boot up. I waited 30 minutes and then it started up but completely froze while loading my desktop. I had to wait another 30 mins before it would let me start up again, and I got a blue screen while loading everything. Im on my old computer now because it wouldnt start again (im waiting to try again). Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, I spent a lot on this rig. Oh I also ran memtest for about 45 minutes, and I got a pass on the test, so the memory shouldn't be the problem. The odd thing is that it'll run fine for a day or two of playing a lot, and I'll have no problems.. then suddenly something like this will keep me from playing randomly. Diffrent games, diffrent times. --Edit: I just got another "STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC00000005, 0x8185c534, 0x9548799C, 0x0000000)" And when I tried starting up right after, nothing happens. The power goes on, but it doesent boot up. Also I noticed when it DOES boot up, at the first screen where you can go into BIOS settings, it says something about Floppy Drives not working, and I have to press F1 to continue.. which I havent seen before. I reset the CMOS and it didnt help.. it actually freezes in BIOS now. I'm not sure what to do. I noticed that the ram voltage was down to 1.85 when I manually set it to 2.2v (Before I reset) I don't know why it got changed back. I cant keep it in BIOS longer than a minute. This all happened out of nowhere. It was working great for about half a week. --PC Specs are in the built in forum thing ^--

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 18, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 18, 2007 The PSU in your list might not be working properly from what you have posted, I would test the CPU and memory on another system to be sure.

Garvin
When you reset the cmos the bios drops back to default settings. After resetting the BIOS, you need to go into the BIOS and reapply the manual changes, such as RAM voltage, you made before. As RAM GUY mentioned, it does sound like there might be a power supply problem.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2007 And you might want to talk with the MB maker and see what they say!

Fyrex
Alright thanks. It's just odd because it was working flawlessly for about half a week. Then all of a sudden it wont stay on for more than a minute.
DerekT
Have you attempted a fresh re-install of your OS. Often times the issue can be seen to be Virus/Malware or corrupted files. This would isolate software from the issue. Download CoreTemp: http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/CoreTempBeta.zip What are your idle temps? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 19, 2007 And have you tested the system one module at a time to see if its just one module that is causing this?
Fyrex
I did a ram test and it seemed to work. I didnt try 1 ram module at a time, and I can't test my components on other computers because I don't have any other compatible peices for other computers. I used speedfan(I think it was called) and my cpu while playing bioshock was at around 35C.
DerekT
Download Memtest from http://www.memtest.org. Unzip the ISO image and burn it to an optical disk. Boot to the optical disk and allow for a couple of passes. Results?
Fyrex
I previously mentioned I already ran memtest, and it passed. I'd run it again, but my computer doesent stay on for more than 1 minute. Whether in BIOS, booting up, boot disk, etc.
Garvin
I'd try removing both RAM modules and then put one back in and see if it'll boot, at least as far as the BIOS so that you can set the RAM voltage and timings. The default 1.85volts it defaulted to may not be enough to power two modules but it might be enough to power a single stick. Removing both modules and then reinserting them should clear up any slot contact problem.
DerekT
I previously mentioned I already ran memtest, and it passed. I did a ram test and it seemed to work. No, you said you did a ram test, and there are many ram testing programs out there that are not good tests of the ram. That's why I asked if you had done a Memtest, as it is the standard for testing memory, and there are two versions of Memtest with the http://www.memtest.org being the least buggy of the two.I'd run it again, but my computer doesent stay on for more than 1 minute. Whether in BIOS, booting up, boot disk, etc. Do you have another power supply to test with?
Fyrex
No I don't. =/
DerekT
Then you need to take this system to a technical repair shop and have them look at it as they will have the necessary components to test the system, isolate the issue and get it running for you. b1z
I previously mentioned I already ran memtest, and it passed. I'd run it again, but my computer doesent stay on for more than 1 minute. Whether in BIOS, booting up, boot disk, etc. Perhaps any thermal self-protection of the board or the cpu internal thermal control is kicking in? Did you check the heat sinks and so on... ? Since you had thermal problems earlier (I don't know how you've fixed them though), they could just have returned...
Fyrex
Before it was a matter of my CPU fan not being turned on in the BIOS settings. But even then I was still able to boot up, and even play a game for almost an hour before it overheated. I have the settings to what they should be. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 24, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 24, 2007 I would check with the MB Maker to make sure that the MB revision and BIOS revision you have will support that CPU based on what you have posted.
