pebble5
As noted in the title, I'm working with an ABIT AA8-DuraMax motherboard, and currently running with the two sticks from the TWIN2X1024-5400C4PRO package. As I would like to upgrade to a bit more than 1GB RAM, I was considering the TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX package. (Each would be paired correctly, of course.) My questions, in rough order of importance, are: Will the two different speeds (PC2-5300 and PC2-6400) of the same latencies (4-4-4-12) play well together, or will mixing speeds cause instability or not even function? Will my motherboard even support the TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX? On the configuration page for my motherboard ( http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=2455 ), TWIN2X2048-6400C4 is listed under the Featured Memory, but not below on the Complete List. I am making the assumption that my motherboard/processor will not be able to run this RAM at its full capabilities (if at all), but if it will lower the performance of the RAM to match its own capacities, buying now PC2-6400 speed RAM (even perhaps using it in all 4 sticks, if it not compatible with PC2-5300) would be preferable in light of, in the future, upgrading my motherboard to one that can take full advantage of the PC2-6400. (Any tips on how, if this is true, to squeeze the max juice from these would be appreciated, but that's a question for the OC forum, no?) Any insight on this, please? DerekT
It's never a good idea to mix and match DRAM modules. Often it is an exercise in frustration management. You will find much more joy if you sell the sticks you now have and move to 2 X 2048MB sticks. You will find it far easier to gain stability with 2 X 2048 and often 4 identical sticks do not make stability no matter what settings. This is doubly so when the sticks are not identical. If you decide to buy the other DRAM and try it, then I wish you luck. I certainly strongly advise against it though.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 17, 2007 That MB will only support up top DDR2-533 Officially, I would suggest VS2GBKit533D2 or no faster than VS2GBKit667D2.
