amzerox
I recently sent a set of TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO in for an RMA, because one module failed memtest with somewhere around 500 errors. The RMA process went smoothly and I got the memory back pretty fast (within about a week), but I was sent the wrong memory. Instead of the TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO, I received 2 CM2X1024-6400C4 modules. I'm sure I will have to call the support number to get this resolved, but I have another question as well. I had originally purchased two sets of TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO, and after I had sent the one set off for RMA, I noticed that the set I still had in my PC was only running at the latencies of 5-5-5-18. The rated speed of these modules being 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1V, I went into my BIOS setup and manually changed them to the specified settings. Whenever I change the settings to 4-4-4-12 @2.1V, I can't get the computer to boot into Windows XP64. It will either blue screen during the loading screen, or it will get to the desktop and either freeze or blue screen. If I go back into the BIOS and set the memory timings to AUTO, it boots fine and has no issues, but still only runs at 5-5-5-18. Will I need to RMA this set of TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO as well? I ask mainly because I originally thought it may be a motherboard issue, but I installed the 2 CM2X1024-6400C4's that were sent to me, and they run at 4-4-4-12 with no problem. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and if you need any more info just let me know and I will respond ASAP.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 17, 2007 XM2S-6400XXPro is no longer available that is most likely why you were sent the non pro version. But as you stated you would need to talk to Customer Service. I had originally purchased two sets of TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO, and after I had sent the one set off for RMA, I noticed that the set I still had in my PC was only running at the latencies of 5-5-5-18. Is that with one set (2)(TWO) modules, or with all four installed? Please test them one set at a time at their tested settings and they would need to be manually set and with 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DRR667 and sett he NB/MCH Chipset Voltage to +.05 Volts as well. amzerox
That was with two modules installed, the other two were being RMA'd at the time. I will test each module individually using memtest this afternoon after work using both 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-18. I will also try underclocking to 667Mhz, and try 4-4-4-12 again. Thanks for the quick response, I should have more info later tonight or tomorrow sometime.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 17, 2007 With one set only please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts (+.3 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
