jimbaker81
Hi, Im having an issue where the 2Gb kit i bought 2 months ago was working fine untill a reboot, and now wont POST at all with both sticks in at once. Having taken my entire PC to bits and spent ages on testing the graphics card due to the beep code (1 long and 2 short, which i thought to be the video card memory?? I may be wrong) i eventually found out by accidentally picking up the other stick of RAM to the one i had been using all morning, that it posted and booted?! My joy was cut short after plugging in the other stick of RAM only to hear the dreaded beeps. So, take out stick 2 - Boots fine. Replaced stick 1 with stick 2 - no POST + beeps again. So my 2Gb kit has been reduced to 1Gb to have any chance of booting :[pouts: Im using the default Bios settings after clearing the CMOS and taking out the battery so i know the configuration is good as it worked the first time i built the system. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 16, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 16, 2007 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and then load optimized defaults and set the Memory Voltage to 1.9 volts and then set the timings to 5-5-5-12 (CAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! Please allow memtest to run 2-3 passes on each module. If you still get errors, we will be happy to replace them! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. Make sure when running memtest you have “Legacy USB Support” disabled in the BIOS.
jimbaker81
I cant run memtest on my machine because it wont get anything close to the stage of booting from any media device with this one stick of RAM plugged in to any DIMM slot. I have tested it on another pc however which booted fine with one stick in and also with both sticks in. Ram memtest for 3 hours with no errors. I know your going to say "well it cant be a problem with the memory then" but it still wont escape the fact that my PC randomly stopped working due to this particular stick and works perfectly without it?? Would like to RMA for another set if poss? Edit: Was only able to test it in a board that supported 533Mhz, unfortunately dont have lots of spares lying around
