stephil
Hello, I have built up weeks ago a system for HTPC usage and had some problems related to power transitions (at least this is what I suspected). Therefore I changed at first my PSU (a Tagan 480W) with this Corsair HX620W, hoping to get a better managment in terms of power. What I have now is that after few minutes (maybe just one) I turn off the PC (both StandBy and Power Off) the 5V Standby seems removed, so the front VFD of my silverstone case turns off too, and in case I turned off to StandBy Windows restart with a failure message. I also see the system clock set at the instant the PC was turnd off... What can be the reason for this? I'm not pointing to the PSU but after changing it the behavior of PC changed too therefore there something strange in Power managment. stephil
I mean there were a couple of replies to my original post and those disappeared. I added something and I re-add it now: I noticed sometimes the system clock is wrong; somebody suggested to change the BIOS battery but I doubt that's the reason: time and date are not from 0 but from the instant the PC was turned off last time. For instance I turned off PC at Oct 12th at 20.45 and the next morning the date was still Oct.12th 20.45 and from there continued. Other, when I turn off the PC (both power off and standby) the 5V Standby power stays for a minute or so (my front VFD display shows the usual message) then I notice the keyboard leds blinking (as a 5V reset) and the VFD turns off too. With the original PSU (Tagan 480W) I also noticed some self blinking of keyboard led and VFD corruption so it seems the cause is the same and not related to PSU. Shouldn't the 5V St.By be permanent? What can cause it to drop?
Corsair Employees Power Guy Posted October 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 17, 2007 Shouldn't the 5V St.By be permanent? What can cause it to drop? I believe so, yes. It should be on permanently. The only question is whether the VFD is being fed power correctly. I can't imagine why your system is starting the clock from when it shut down. If the battery were good, it would keep its internal clock perfectly. There's nothing a PSU can do to affect the clock of a system if the BIOS battery is working correctly, as far as I know. Are you using a UPS at all? A power strip? I'm curious as to how this is plugged in and working. Feel free to email me offline at powerguy@corsairmemory.com and I'll try to answer your questions more directly. I don't check this forum every day like Ram Guy does, so sometimes I miss posts.
