Hydrocool and MCP355 Pump

Hello, I've grown attached to my Hydrocool over the past 2-3 years and I really hate to give it up. However, I would like to improve the pumping capabilities of the unit. I have searched and read that you can swap the original pump out with the higher flowing DDC-1 pump (MCP350 equivalent).

Can someone let me know if you can also use it's higher flowing brother the MCP355??

I believe the MCP355 draws almost twice the current as the MCP350, so that is why I am concerned. But with only a $5 price difference, I'd rather put the higher flow version in if I can.

P.S. I've already done all the other upgrades - larger tubes, no flow indicator, no elbow, etc. I'm ready for a larger pump now.

Thanks!

mboehk,

I've only successfully done the DDC-1 aka MCP350 as a replacement in the HC200. You might have read a few of my threads around here.

If you use the MCP355 and run into not enough flow to the pump issues, I would highly recommend adding a second fluid reservoir in the loop before the HC200's reservoir outside the unit. Morrisgs has used a 1-gallon pickle jar fluid reservoir with great success. I have two of these jars under the desk for a day when I would need them. ;):
