8500cd5, asus p5k memtest errors.

I was always led to believe that a PSU is pretty much all or nothing. Per cpu-z and the asus monitoring software, nothing appears to be running under-spec and while running memtest I unplug all but a single hdd and optical further reducing the power consumption.

Currently I am running another memtest with both sticks at the settings recommended by derekt on the other thread and am stuck at 98% on test 5 with currently 500k errors @ 16 minutes.

If you still feel the PSU is the issue, would http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159056 be recommended/acceptable?

Thanks for your time.

Yes that should be enough power but you should check with the Video Card manufacturer to be sure.

Errors in test 5-8 would normally suggest some other problem, can you test them one at a time and see if you get the same type of errors and if so is it on all of the modules or just one that is failing?

Yeah, my current psu is enough to handle my video card. I will try a new one later.

One note though, if you could take the time...

Since I've built this computer, any large rar archives I download (game demos/betas, linux distros) have been failing crc upon extraction. When attempting to install fresh copies of games I get cyclinc redundancy errors.

Does this help point to anything?

When you get a CRC error, I would recommend that you remove a module and try to reproduce the same error. Test both modules individually, and if you are only getting the error with one of the modules, it could be the memory. If both modules give you the error, then there is probably something else causing it.

Hey, as far as the downloads, it is the downloads themselves that are corrupted, not anything happening during extraction. Transport of archives downloaded on this computer encounter the same errors on others, yet downloading the same archive on those computers results in a good download/extraction.

I don't intend to test any further as I have ordered a new motherboard in hopes that it is the issue. It should at least point one way or the other..

I will also be replacing this new antec 650w psu with an ocz 700w GameXStream in hopes to lower temperatures as my upgrade to the antec raised my cpu idle and load temps by ~20c each.

Come Wednesday I should be ripping this thing out and rebuilding. Do you have any advice for an Abit IP35 pro?

Also, if it DOES turn out to be the ram, what RMA options do we have? Are you willing to cross-ship?

Thanks again.
