kdoh
I recently purchased an ASUS P5K-E, Intel E6750, and Corsair Domminators Twin 8500C5D. I boot up the system and the system recognizes the ram and processor at defaults no problem. Now when I try to install windows xp, I get all sorts of random lock ups. The screen just freezes. If I manually lower the speed of the RAM to 800 with 4-4-4-12 timings, I have no problems. The minute I try to load anything at 1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings, I get lock ups and freezes. The system just refuses to run at 1066. I tried running memtest86 with the ram set to 1066 and it locks up running the first pass. The fastest I've been able to run the ram at is 888 with 4-4-4-12 timings. Looks like my 1066 corsairs are performing more like 800 sticks. Hope I didnt just get rebranded RAM. Anyway, any suggestions will help. Thanks in advance. P.S.- Has anyone gotten this ram to run at 1066 on this particular board? and if so at what settings? THANKS!

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 10, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 10, 2007 And make sure that you have the latest BIOS version installed and load setup defaults before you set these setting's and don't over look the memory memory Voltage. Then you will need to disable legacy USB when testing or running any memory test.
kdoh
Thanks for the help guys. I ran some tests last night to no avail. I'm running memtest86+ 1.70 with USB legacy support disabled and run test#5 and always get errors at 97%-98%. It's fine for the entire pass, then right when it gets to 97%, the errors just flood in and the test locks up with the error count climbing in the thousands per second. I have to hard reset to get out of memtest86+. super :[pouts: hope this isn't an indication that the memory is bad. i think mine are quimoda sticks and not Micron like i thought they were when i bought from zipzoomfly. =( in any case, i will try these new settings that you guys posted up and see what my results are. THANKS AGAIN! =)
kdoh
No luck this time. So i just ran memtest86+ again with the settings you guys gave me and memtest86+ immediately crashes. Screen distorts like an old school NES game that crashes midplay. Boxes all outta sync and chopped up. I dont know what it is. I think my sticks say 2.1volts on the sticker so i'll try that. blasted Quimoda. any other suggestions?
kdoh
If I were to RMA these, should I go through Corsair direct or go through ZipZoomFly? I'm still within my 30 day warantee from the etailer.

kdoh
Just an FYI, when i set this RAM to DDR2-6400 speeds with 4-4-4-12 timings, all tests run fine. Makes me feel like I got 6400 sticks that were just rebranded as 8500 which i know corsair wouldnt do. =(
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 11, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 11, 2007 That would maybe suggest its the system holding you back, have you tried moving the modules to the other two slots or checked for the latest BIOS for your MB? kdoh
let me try that.... i cannot boot anything higher than 800 speeds. i was able to get it to post at 888 once. but when i ran memtest86+ i got massive errors. havent been able to post it at that speed again. i'll switch slots and see what i get. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 12, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 12, 2007 You should only have to load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to 2.2 Volts and set the timings manually to Cas 5-5-5-15 and set Command Rate to 2t and set the memory frequency Ratio so it runs the memory at DDR1066. Maybe you are selecting the wrong ratio? What are the exact settings you are setting?
kdoh
ok.. tried to switch the dimms and tried the settings recommended on all the latest BIOS versions. still the same thing. i can't be really sure what is going on. whether it's the memory or the motherboard. all i know is that this memory won't post at 1066. any final suggestions? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 13, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 13, 2007 Will the system run and pass http://www.memtest.org at 800 MHz if so its most likely not the memory? Have you tried to test them one at a time to see if its just one of the modules failing?
kdoh
I have tested these under the following conditions. 1. One stick at a time in slot 1, then slot 2 with the above mentioned timings/settings for my bios under BIOS revisions 503, 602, and 802. 2. Both sticks in DIMM slots 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 with above mentioned settings under BIOS 503, 602, and 802. I've tried raising the voltage to 2.2V and it actually makes the RAM more unstable. The highest I've been able to get this RAM to is about 888 with 5-5-5-15 timings. Anything higher and I get massive errors running memtest86+ 1.70 on test #5 right at about 98%. The major reason I think this ram is defective is that I am able to run another pair of RAM rated for DDR2-6400 at higher speeds than this RAM with timings of 5-5-5-18 under 2.3V. with all other settings constant! The only thing I changed in the BIOS was the timings, voltage, and speed. I was able to get OCZ DDR2-6400 running at 1066 with 2.30V and 5-5-6-18 timings. (ran memtest86+ 1.70 test #5 with no errors).
