TexasSpur
The question is: Is PC5300 downward compatible? Can I use 5300 in my laptop? My laptop uses PC4200 and I understand I can use PC5300. I have an HP DV6233SE. The Corsair Site states to use VS1GSDS533D2, the problem is that I can buy VS1GSDS667D2 for significantly less money in a 2 gig kit. Thanks for your help in advance. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 8, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 8, 2007 You posted this same question previously, and one of the other users answered you and I agree with what he posted. You just have to try it and see, the modules have the information to run at a slower speed, but the NB BIOS will have to see a faster modules SPD and some will not but most will. Just make sure the reseller will let you send them back if it does not work, most will not accept returns on memory.
TexasSpur
Ramguy, I reposted because I did not know if I posted in the right area and I thought the prior users answer was suspect and I did not trust it. I did not think I would get an answer, like heck if I know. I figured that a representative of the "leader in the performance memory for intensive computing" would know. After the punt, I called HP's customer support and got an affirmative answer.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 9, 2007 NP that was why I gave a bit more of an explanation, so no problem. Please let me know if you have any more questions!
