thejamppa
I got pretty decent gaming system in my rig, but its old K8 architechture and I don't have money to upgrade to new AM2 or Intel LGA-775. I have Corsair TwinX 1024-PC3200C2 ( 2x 512mb ) But 1 GB is not enough. I just ordered 2xCMX 512MB PC3200C2 Modules so make my system have 2 GB. Briefly looking specs they look same: CMX512-3200C2 and TWINX1024-3200C2 . So what is their difference? TwinX are sold pair tested packages while CMX are same memory which are sold individual packages without being tested in pairs? So they should work well together? 4x 512mb XMS modules, same CAs Latency, Same timing, just two are TwinX and two are CMX's? I didn't had much choice since all DDR1 TwinX were sold out long ago, just some CMX's were around. So I do hope I didn't screwed up and bought memories that won't work with my current system. My memories are slightly overclocked ( 408 Mhz ) My Board is A8N32-Sli DeLuxe I just hope I didn't screwed up
DerekT
It is never a good idea to mix and match modules. You never can be certain that they will work. You can try it if you like as you can't hurt the board. Enter your BIOS and set your DRAM speed to 333Mhz and your DRAM Command Rate to 2T. Then shut down and install the second set. Restart. Download Memtest from http://www.memtest.org and test the modules for stability. Just because you boot, does not mean you are stable and you might well corrupt your Operating system. Remove the hard drive cables, and then install/test the dram if you choose to go that route. I personally would sell the 2 X 512 and purchase a set of 2 X 1GB. This will save you much possible problems...
thejamppa
I haven't find any TwinX memories for DDR1 in here... Since I have HT250 and my Ram clocks are already 166 with T2 Timing working well (and thus giving memories 408 Mhz speed), I just install memories and hope for best. 173€ for 2x1 Gb Twinx 2048-3200C2 and note: Not in Supply Store. That was best I found. So basicly I haven't found TwinX memories in here which would have been certainly be available.

thejamppa
Thanks DerekT. I guessed that mixing wouldn't be smart idea, so I tried to avoid the risk buying useless ram. Since those are almost identical ram's (same timing and latency, same sized modules) they should work better than let's say some other manufacturers ram? Let's hope sometimes in next week I can report how it worked. if I can boot computer well and drive the memtest successfully ( I just burned bootable Memtest CD ) I should be safe then? Yes, the closest you can match them would be best. If you memtest successfully then you are good for the go.
thejamppa
So in would my memories work if I use 166 multiplier, so MB would detect them as DDR 333 Mhz with T2 timing making them in practise 166/200*250 = be in practise DDR 408 Mhz ( with 4% overclock ) my current XMS512-PC3200C2's are v. 5.2 and I have no idea what versions memories I ordered are. Should I just cancel the order?
DerekT
I can't guarantee anything with mixing and matching. I would sell the 512's and buy 2 X 1024 personally. No problems then.
