Only problem now is the Event Viewer error, ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for PCI slot whatever. About 6 entries in a row for that. Suspect BIOS im thinking. Could that cause a system hang ?

You must be specific as to the Event Viewers Error. Is is a yellow question mark or a red stop? Double click on the error and copy the entire issue. Post it here.

Thats the top one, there are eight of them in total, just with differrent PCI Slot numbers. That is from the boot, system is still running as im posting this. ASUS have been told about this, and they suggested removing the battery and clearing the CMOS, which I did, and it didnt help. Im waiting on them now for another response. The OS install is less than a few months old, but you think I should do it again ? System runs for hours atm.

I would just use another HDD and do a fresh install of the O.S. and see if you get the same error. Point being, if the fresh install does not show this error then its a Microsoft BUG (Most Likely) but if it shows up again with a fresh install of the O.S. and you have not done any thing to corrupt the install (IE Slip Streme copied CD or something like that) Then I would send the MB back and have them check it.

I reinstalled the chipset drivers as some forums pointed to this as a solution for the ACPI BIOS IRQ error, but its not fixed it.

The system seems stable enough, in fact its a lot more stable than it has been for ages. Im going to hold off re-installing Vista just yet, as I know SP1 is due out soon, if I can manage until then I will do, but if the system starts hanging again i'll reinstall vista. Unfortunately its difficult for me to just reinstall it as so much stuff needs backing up before I do, then transfering it all back across from my external. Here's hoping that what ive done in the BIOS from the advice given here has solved it.

Thanks again guys, i'll post back if anything happens, but so far so good :)

NP and again, I would just use another HDD to test the theory first then you will have a better idea of the cause. HDD's are pretty cheap right now I just got a 200 Gig for like 70.00 USD and for me spending 70.00 USD would be a inexpensive way to test this, but it's your choice.
