Crosshair MB and Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024

I have a compatibility question regarding my Mother Board and RAM.

Mother Board: ASUS Crosshair

RAM: Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4

The ram came in a Pair so I am guessing it is dual channel, the timings written on the ram stick itself is 4-4-4-12

I need to know if the Ram is compatible with the MotherBoard at all, also I need to know if I can run 4 sticks of these all at once on this MB (2 kits, each kit being 2 1gig sticks).

This came up due to a recent problem I am having with my PC. The MB LCD poster shows DET DRAM and nothing ever shows up on the screen when I start up the PC, it never gets to the startup logo and the option to go into BIOS it just sits there with a black screen. Thus also is a warranty question regarding this specific Ram kit I bought from Newegg in April of 2007. Does anyone know for sure if my ram is under warranty?

On a last note right before all this mess happened, I bought another Kit of this ram so I can upgrade from 2gigs to 4. That new pair of ram should be in by Monday.

Also This should be the RAM I have:

Also the Ram I just bought again from New Egg is:

MEM 1Gx2|COR 240P TWIN2X2048-6400C4

Which should be the same stuff.

Firstly let me assure you that your DRAM falls under a lifetime warranty. Keep your receipt. It is often problematic to run 4 sticks but you can try.

Install two sticks in Dimms A1 and A2 (same colored banks).

Enter your BIOS, set your DRAM to 800MHz (PC2-6400) and set your DRAM Timings to:

DRAM voltage - 2.1V

CAS Latency Time (tCL) - 4

RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) - 4

RAS# Precharge (tRP) - 4

Precharge Delay (tRAS) - 12

Command Rate - 2T

Download Memtest from http://www.memtest.org. Burn the image to an optical disk and boot from the disk. Test these sticks. If all works, then enter the BIOS and set your DRAM to 533Mhz/PC2-4200. Shut the system down and insert the second set of DRAM. Test once again with memtest.

Results?

Ok will do, only problem is right now is the fact the I am unforsure if the 2 RAM sticks I have now are dead, like I said when I start up the Computer nothing comes up on the screen and the MB LCD Poster says DET DRAM.

Also according to my MBs manual DIMM slots B1 and A1 are blue and B2 and A2 are white. This is why I am confused I have been hearing more than one thing. B1 and B2 are right next to each other closest to the Processor then its A1 and A2.

The main problematic this atm is knowing what it is I am doing or have done wrong. Or if I have don anything wrong at all. I've been told that the RAM is dead, or the CMOS chip on the MB is bad ect.

1. Power your system down and remove the CMOS battery. Leave out for ~1 hour

2. Insert the CMOS battery back into the system. Insert one stick of DRAM into the first blue slot.

Restart the system...

Results?

If not, do you have a stick of generic ram? You can purchase a cheap 512mb stick for testing purposes. Install the stick and start the system.

Results?

Can you test your ram in another system?

Ok I have removed the Battery and will try in one hour.

I do not currently have another system I can test the RAM I have, Although on Monday I can take them up to campus and have someone check them for me. Also I am getting in a new set of the same exact ram sometime Monday or Tuesday I can try. I also assume you mean the slot closest to the Processor as the first blue slot.

Thanks for the help thus far, one more question though, the RAM I have came in a set (2 Gbyte DDR2 Twin2X). What slots should I put a "set" in.

This is how they are from left (closest to processor) to right:

DIMM_B1(Blue) DIMM_B2(White) DIMM_A1(Blue) DIMM_A2(White)

The manual also has this tid bit of information stating:

For dual-channel configuration, the total size of memory modules(s) installed per channel must be the same (DIMM_A1 + DIMM_A2 = DIMM_B1 + DIMM_B2).

The reason I state this is I have been told to put the set in A1 A2 or B1 A1. Just confused on what is right.

I should have half the results tomorrow and the rest sometime Monday.

Again thanks for the help thus far.

Yes. Good idea to take them to Campus and have them checked on another machine. In this way, you can isolate the issue.

They should be placed in like colors. Blue slots are one set and White slots are another set. Populating the same color rank will allow your system to run in Dual Channel Mode.

The Asus Crosshair supports four DDR2 memory modules, with the two memory channels being seperated slightly on the board. You'll first want to install two modules into the blue slots to get dual channel memory support set correctly.

It was indeed the BIOS Chip. After looking for a bit allot of people have the same problems with the ASUS MyLogo utility. Anyways just a bad BIOS flash. Called ASUS and had a new BIOS chip sent to me, works perfectly now. Thanks for all your help.

And if there is a more safe way to change the boot logo let me know
