Compatablility issue?!

I currently have 1GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 800MHz TWIN (2x512MB) DDR2 RAM and wanted to upgrade to 2GB. I ordered another TWIN kit from the company that built my machine last November. He was out of the TWIN kit and offered me a single 1GB stick instead (was a touch cheaper too). Since he built the machine, I assumed he knew if there would be compatability issues. But they won't work together.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE DX, and I've tried several combonations to make them work together, but with no luck. The single 1GB stick works by itself with no problem in slot 1, and my original 2 sticks work fine in slot 1 & 3. But I can't get them to work together. He is trying to talk me through it via email, but it is a SLOW process.

I've ran Memtest_86 (v3.2) with the single 1GB, and no errors. But if I put either of the other two in one at a time, in slot 2, I get errors. I tried the twins in slots 1 and 3, and the new 1GB in slot 2 and it crashed my machine.

Help?! Thoughts? Are the TWIN kits even compatable with the 1GB stick in any combonation?

My advice would be to see if this tech will purchase back the 2 X 512 and 1 X 1024 and sell you 2 X 1024MB. Considering his advice, it would be a good thing for him to stand to his lack of knowledge.

This would fix your issues. Otherwise you will be fraught with frustration in attempts to make this work.
