pjeaton
Hello, A couple of years ago I bought an AV8 Motherboard and loaded it with 2 x VS52MB400C3 (I think I bought them as a KIT). I ran it for a couple of weeks and Windows 2000 was crashing occasionally. Turned out that it was a RAM error on one of the sticks that was identified with Windows Memory Diagnostic. I reduced the RAM speed from 400 to 333 and that sorted it. I was a bit unhappy that my RAM wouldn't run out of the box at the specified speed, but I lived with it because the PC worked fine and was fast enough. However, I'm now looking to get this sorted out. I need more speed for certain memory intensive tasks and I'd like to go to 400 and tweak some of the latency settings to get rid of the errors. Which of the parameters should I start with? I'm not really into fiddling for hours on end with settings for that last 1% of performance so I'm looking for shortcuts, really. Should I not be able to get it to run at 400, is there a Corsair agent in the UK where I can return my RAM under warranty for one that doesn't fail the WMD at 400? All thoughts appreciated. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 5, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 5, 2007 I would recommend that you set the memory voltage to 2.7 volts if you were having problems running at DDR400. Load setup defaults in the BIOS, set memory voltage to 2.7v and set the memory frequency to 400MHz. Test the modules individually with http://www.memtest.org, and if one of the modules is failing we will get them replaced for you.
pjeaton
Hello again, I tried out numerous test settings (including using 2.7V) and in the end I bought some new RAM. I then transferred the RAM that was giving me the problem to a different PC, this time running with a 3.2GHz Pentium 4. This system shows the same problem. With Memtest, I am seeing that there is a problem with one of the sticks, the other one seems OK. Please can you send me an address to return the failing stick to, for a replacement. Do I need to return both sticks i.e. are they used in matched pairs? Thanks, Phillip Eaton London, UK
pjeaton
I just got an RMA number from Corsair. I need to send the RAM the the USA. It's not worth it, I'm just going to dump it and put it down to experience. Cheers, Phillip Eaton London, UK
DerekT
I just got an RMA number from Corsair. I need to send the RAM the the USA. It's not worth it, I'm just going to dump it and put it down to experience. I'm confused as to why you would not RMA the DRAM? Experience? Any hardware can have problems. It can't be that expensive or time consuming to send in an RMA. I usually have a few sticks of generic vanilla DRAM in case of such an issue if your problem is that you don't want the system to be down. Corsair will give you options on the return. You can choose to have them ship to you first and you ship yours after receiving the DRAM. This is called Cross-shipping.
pjeaton
Thanks for your thoughts. Well, I dug out my deleted Corsair emails and checked them and it says nothing about cross-shipping or anything like that. All there is, is a link to my RMA number. It does say that they will send me my replacement back via UPS, but my system will be down and that's a hassle. If you could send me a like where I could make this cross-shipping happen, then I'd be very grateful. Experience? 'Don't buy cheap RAM.' Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 26, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 26, 2007 We do not offer cross shipping as a rule, sorry! And I would suggest checking with your reseller and see if they will help you. In addition, there may be a closer shipping option available, but you would need to go through the RMA request process to get that information. Please call our customer service at 888-222-4346 or 510-657-8747 Ext "0" after 8:00 AM Pacific Time tomorrow!
pjeaton
OK, I've stuck it in a memory box, then in a jiffy bag and send it off Airmail... lets see what happens. I'll report back when I get a replacement. (Or not!) Thanks, Phillip Eaton London, UK
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 26, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 26, 2007 Did you get the RMA number first? If so what was the number and I will ask our shipping department to watch out for it?
pjeaton
Taken from the Corsair online RMA I received: Your RMA# is 1035650 Package was sent airmail, should take 3-5 days. Phillip Eaton London, UK
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 27, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 27, 2007 Please also post the tracking number and I will see what we can do to get them sent out ASAP. And I just spoke to CSG about this and asked them to look into it.
pjeaton
Regarding tracking number, I assume you mean the Case number? From the email I received: 'Corsair Technical Support has sent you a message regarding Case #333441' It was posted from the UK using regular Airmail, it doesn't have a postal tracking number as such. (That would cost probably double what the RAM is worth!) Many thanks for your help. Phillip Eaton London, UK
pjeaton
FAO The RAM GUY Your RMA guys have now received my dodgy memory module and are looking into it. (Fast Airmail!) I noticed on the RMA acknowledgment receipt they send me that I'd put down that I was returning 2 memory modules. In fact, I only returned 1 memory module as I needed to keep my system running and the other stick works OK. I have already emailed customerservice@corsair.com to advise of this, in case they're wondering where the other memory module is, but thought I'd better put this here also, for the RAM GUY to see. pjeaton
Hi All, Apologies for not updating this thread - right after I received the replacement memory module I moved house! I have now tested the replacement unit and it is working fine. It was delivered very quickly and I am very happy with the service I received from Corsair - thanks Ram Guy for your help.
