SN25P compatibility help!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I recently purchased "2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair TwinX XMS DDR PC3200 (400), 184 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 3-3-3-8" for my shuttle SN25P.

Basically the system refuses to boot. It displays the boot screen then resets instantly. I've tried all combinations of timings but it refused to boot. I've sent the modules back to scan under RMA for a full refund but I'd like some advice on which module to buy. I require 2x1Gb modules and was hopping you could recommend which ones to get as my previous choice was bad. Not to mention the shuttle SN25P has a really fussy board.

Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

I would try and just set the CPU Frequency at 200 MHz and not over clock the system, but if you do over clock I would suggest relaxing the timings to Cas 2.5-3-3-7. And you cannot MIx XMS3200XL and XMS3200 modules in that system. And when you change modules you will maybe need to reset the MB BIOS to get it to see the new memory.

Umm i'm not sure you understood my original question.

My current RAM is:

Corsair Twin X 3200 XMS XL (2-2-2-5) (2x512Mb)

I was upgrading to:

Corsair TwinX XMS 3200 PT (3-3-3-8) (2x1Gb)

Now the upgraded RAM would not boot with my system. It booted fine off each individual stick. It even booted fine with 1x512Mb and 1x1Gb (old and new ram.)

Now the problem only occurred when both sticks were in the system at the same time (No matter what timings or bus speeds i set). I've since sent the modules back for a full refund.

My question was... what modules would you recommend me for my upgrade?

Yes and as I stated when you change you will need to reset the BIOS with just the new modules installed so they are seen properly.

Twinx2048-3200 will run great in that system, but you should not mix them.
